So that is not a Cooper's Hawk...it's a Red Shouldered Hawk. The wing color is how you tell the difference. Adult Cooper's wings stay almost solid in color almost gray like... were as the Red Shouldered wings turn striped kind of like their tails.

Saw this on a walk with the dog yesterday. Just a crappy cell phone pic. SG identified it as a giant puff ball.
Pine cone was for size reference.

I am leaning juvenile Red Shouldered. Cooper's and Red Shouldered Hawks look very similar as juveniles. I have flown both and the Cooper's are slightly smaller, which is hard to tell by picture. Also the tail on a Cooper's is much longer compared to wing tips. Easiest way to tell is that call of the Red Shouldered, if you hear them they seem to call all the time, especially the juveniles. Had one on my deck railing yelling at my Barred owl a couple weeks ago.

Made the mistake of not taking a camera today.

We went to Hooper's Island(s), and had no lack of great views of Herons, Egrets, Eagles, Osprey, various Gulls and Brown Pelicans.

Had never explored down there before, and it should be great duck viewing territory come fall and winter.
