Check the reciprocity to see where you can go with each, and compare to where you're likely to be. Remember that only that state that issued your permit covers the Gun Free School Zones law, so if you often go to VA, for example, and have schools nearby, that might help make your choice.

Yes, you will need 30 forms of a Maryland picture ID, and 6 fingerprint cards WITH ink, no livescan. I cannot stress the importance of INK.

If a Russian made AK, the gun shop will have to call the maker in Russia to verify the serial number and RMA the 30 round 'clip' back for a 5 rounder Maryland compliant 'clip' In the meantime I recommend you apply for your non-res VA ccw in case you need to carry on school grounds.
