    I could only listen to the arrogant POTUS for a short time, but in that time he said;

    OBAMA: First, it’s time for Congress to require a universal background check for anyone trying to buy a gun.

    (APPLAUSE)

    The law already requires licensed gun dealers to run background checks, and over the last 14 years that’s kept 1.5 million of the wrong people from getting their hands on a gun.

    Yet the FBI lists;

    Total Federal Denials 987,578
    November 30, 1998 - December 31,

    Break down by reason is in this one page pdf
    http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics/reports/20130102_denials.pdf

    The NCIS web home page also lists this;

    Before ringing up the sale, cashiers call in a check to the FBI or to other designated agencies to ensure that each customer does not have a criminal record or isn’t otherwise ineligible to make a purchase. More than 100 million such checks have been made in the last decade, leading to more than 700,000 denials.

    I do wonder if the total denials, includes ones that were approved on appeal? Or if multiple guns by the same buyer are multiple denials ?

    One thing I do not see is where the arrest and CONVICTION of those 700,000, or 984,000 or the Obama number of 1.4 MILLION.

    By the way, there have been 160.5 MILLION NCIS checks. If the 984k number is accurate, that's a 0.615% denial rate. Not too shabby.

    Of note, the denials for "felons" was a total of 445,000 in 2008 and 540,000 in 2011. So the BULK of the "bad people" were denied quite some time ago.
