i purchased a le6920 last weekend, so of course it has the removable carry handle, and i'm wondering what the best optics setup is based on personal use and opinions of different setups that you have shot. so what would be the better option, carry handle mount and sight/scope, or a riser mount and sight/scope? id prefer the riser mount and sight/scope aesthetically, however then i would have no BUS.

There's no right or wrong answer. There's no such thing as a best optics setup. It's a matter of budget, personal preference, intended use, and experience. You've literally got thousands of options to pick from. Most all of those options allow for BUIS/MBUS, especially if the chosen optics use a quick-detach (QD) mount. Aesthetics should take a back seat to practicality and ease of use for the desired application.

i'm not looking to spend a bunch of money on an optic yet, i would of course like to have an ACOG, or EOTech, but i'm looking to keep it around $250 for now. someone suggested a bushnell red dot for my intended use, which will be mostly target shooting, and if needed HD. i was thinking id just do a mount on the carry handle that way i still have the carry handle installed for my iron sights. i'm just looking for suggestions or to find out what most people use or have found works best for my intended use. i've thought about possibly doing some 3 gun competitions at some point, so i'm sure a higher quality sight/scope would be needed at that time.

Bushnell and Primary Arms micro dots are nice entry-level options. You can mount it to the top of the handle with a basic low-profile, see-through picatinny mount like this:

    thanks, i bookmarked that link

The closer your scope is to bore centerline the broader the range it will be sighted in for. Leupold mark iv's are nice. Not as pricey as an acog

thanks for the suggestion i'll be checking them out.

Nail on the head with that.

I've never used a carry-handle, always had flat-tops. And for that, a decent quality RDS and flip BUIS has always filled my bill. But it's not a 'one fits all' type of deal. So YMMV.

Bushnell's TRS-1 isn't a bad starter RDS either, under $100 most places, and seems to be robust enough for most casual shooters.

Save a tad more and get an aimpoint pro for 400. Or if you really dont want to spend it go for a vortex strikefire. They are great entry level(pricewise) red dots. Strong as hell, probably the best red dot thats not an aimpoint or trijicon. Amazing warrenty and good quality. I had one and it has lasted. I sold it to a friend and hes still got it going strong.
