Recommend a Revolver Speedloader for a S&W 64

Last speedloader I bought 30+ years ago was an HKS. Is that still the one to get? Model 10-A for a S&W 64.

If for HD I would go with the Safariland Comp above, larger, but easier to use under stress.

+1 on HKS. Mine too are >30yrs old, simple reliable and if the OP is used to HKS, stick with that style. Practice and muscle memory will make them easier to use under stress.

I use the Safariland Comp 2s with my 64. I’ve owned the HKS 10As too, but prefer the Safariland.

I like Safariland comp2, but I admit that’s all I’ve ever used w my GP100. I like that there is no knob you need to turn when you’re releasing the rounds.

Choosing a speed loader is just step 1.

I recommend practice with a cylinder full of spent shells and snap caps in the speed loader. Run some reps where you dry fire the “last round” and then reload.

If you haven’t tried doing a reload quickly you might be surprised how fumbly it is w a revolver. Then try not looking down at the cylinder and do it by feel as you line up the speed loader- remember you might be focused on someone attacking you.

Yes , under perfect conditions, the Safariland could be a cpl .001's faster.

But at speed or under stress , it's significantly more fumble - ly ( damn auto correct ) than HKS .

Safari requires more precise alignment to the cylinder , and fine motor control . HKS is more margin of error for alignment, and the Twist is gross motor skill , and simultaneously flings the now empty loader well clear .


But yes , practice until you can do it with eyes closed . Behind your back .
