If SCOTUS rules this is OK a bill will be passed next year mandating GPS devices in all vehicles that the police can access wirelessly via the vehicle tag number. Mark my words.

So you want to be one of the 50 allowed in to see a landmark case?...

It ain't easy, speaking from my McDonald experience where I was #77....

The overnight events Monday past, preceding US v Jones.

Note the line wrapping around the block, looking south towards Library of Congress.

The "Lucky 50" as they're prepositioned on the Marble in front...

I'm already counting on Masciandaro being granted Cert and how to plan for getting into the Orals...

    Mark,

What time did you show up to the McDonald case?

I took the 1st Metro in which was 5am, got to 1 First around 6am. Too late...

For a big case, midnight - 3am would need to be the arrival time to be one of the 1st 50.

For a "Landmark" case, figure arriving sunset the night before! This was the case in McDonald. This requires a lot of planning, as the sidewalk must be "cleared" by 9am.

McDonald Orals were 3/2/10, the following is the thread of that day:

I wonder if it'll be easier to get into a case like Masciandaro; I doubt you'll have a media presence nearly that of McDonald or Heller.

Just to keep on topic here-anyone catch where Chief Justice Roberts asked the SG if he thought it was OK for someone to stick GPS's on SCOTUS' cars w/o their knowledge? The SG had to duck that one pretty darn quickly.

Would it make a good argument to have planted GPS devices on the cars of the 9 judges and their spouses / children and show that data ?

    Why the wait......

Some states are looking into RFID chips embedded in the plates.

Also, if they pass a per mile road usage taxes, transponders would be required for all roads and not just toll roads.

They don't need to wait on this case

I'm seriously considering buying an old car from the 70's or 80's to use as my daily driver.
No computers, no tracking, no spying, no microchips.
Then big brother can suck on my old car's tailpipe.
If that's doesn't work maybe I'll get a moped, or maybe not.

So do we get to electronically monitor the progress of them making the decision?

    You won't - ever.

In fact, we already have "secret courts" that conduct their business in complete anonymity and secrecy. All in the name, of course, of national security.

Americans are no longer citizens - we're subjects.
