Garrett Co Hooligan #1
As most folks on the forum know, we Hooligans enjoy tinkering with options on our firearms. Here's one I'd like your input on. Let me set the stage:
Several years ago a Ruger American Ranch in 300BLK joined our fun. After bedding the rifle in a nice Boyd's stock, adding a muzzle brake made sense if only for looks looks. So I picked up an inexpensive Midwest Industries 30 cal brake, installed it and that was that. The brake never added any accuracy, but it was OK and looked good.
Late last year the Thompson Center Compass .270 arrived (gathering new caliber range brass is a bad habit!). The rifle is a tack driver! I'm now thinking a muzzle brake makes a lot more sense on a 270 WIN than a 300 BLK rifle.
Both muzzles have the same thread pattern. Moving the muzzle brake from the Ruger to the TC Compass wouldn't be a big deal. Since I only paid $300 for the Compass I'm not looking to invest in a new top of the line muzzle brake.
So, would you repurpose this muzzle brake? Why and/or why not?
