Was thinking about getting a couple mags for a Chinese. A few I've looked at say "some stock modification necessary"
    So, questions are:
What exactly are they talking about
Do all require a little filing to fit properly?
Will the original still fit properly?

I just got some tapco sks mags. Work great.

Now once you go down that road though- you need to worry about 922(r) compliance. So pick up a stock set (stock and handguard) made in the USA. Throw those on, and with a magazine, you have 5 US parts. (Please double check my math...your rifle might be different).

I have one that has the standard fixed 10 round box magazine and another that has been modified to accept the AK mags. With the wooden furniture you need to remove some wood from the area where the mag locks in. On most SKSs the fit will be otherwise too tight and will pinch the top of the magazine impairing proper feed. There was a model that was produced to use the removable magazine. You could also opt to change out the stock to one that is designed to use the AK mags.
