The wife bought a Ruger MkIV to practice more and get her fundamentals better. What unexpected, or unique, things should I expect to have to deal with? Any quirks, known issues, that sort of thing.

None I can think of. Great gun. You can disassemble them without fear.

22/45 has a 1911 grip angle and takes 1911 grips. Aluminum lower also.

Standard is similar to the original which has been in production since the late 50s. Looks more like a Luger

Safe to dry fire. Stock triggers are crappy, Volquartsen can help. Magazines and mag release may be rough and require a break in period and may mags sometimes get stuck in the magwell. may require a couple thousand rounds to break in for optimal reliability. Barrels are surprisingly good and very accurate. Extractors have a habit of wearing out with high round counts. Powder and brass have a tendency to get behind the extractor and cause weak extraction or ejection, a good scrub can fix this.

Do they tend to be picky with ammo? Or will any bulk ammo work?
I have never found any gun that likes junk like Thunderbolts. I frankly don't hold much higher of an opinion of golden bullets. Unless you'll be seriously high volume I'd say stick to CCI.

That's true. I've never tried thunder duds

Dad does have this Russian 22 he got forever ago. Lubricated steel case low velocity. Dirtiest stuff ever. Runs fine in his.

If this is your first 22 pistol, great choice. My MK3 eats anything. Def stay away from Remington ammo. It sucks and is dirty as hell. Before the shortage of 22 years ago, I gave literally several thousand rounds of it away. I liked it that much, that I just wanted it gone.

Ruger said the Wrangler could be dry fired too. There are a lot of unhappy campers on the net who would up having their cylinders ironed out from that lie. Do yourself a favor and never dry fire a rimfire. ;)

I have a Ruger MK II Competition Target. I bought a MK IV a few weeks ago expecting the trigger to be at least close but it had a lot of slop.

Dropped in a Volquartsen trigger last weekend and now it's as good if not better than the MK II. I haven't cussed as much as I did installing that trigger for a long time...probably since the last time I took apart the MK II.
