She was charged because she is lying about what happened. There's more to this then she's telling authorities:

Salter originally told police that Finch was assaulted by a group of people while she was not in the car, but according to police her account was inconsistent with witness reports. Salter then said that Finch was assaulting her in the car and that she stabbed him in self-defense. According to charging documents, however, it was determined that Salter "had opportunity to exit the vehicle if she was in fear for her safety."

Apparently there are witnesses that can give a non biased account of the homicide.

At this point it is about impossible to say what happened, somewhere between self defense and murder, but there is definitely more to this story, especially with her lying about what happened to police.

The truth is the truth. If it was self defense, there should be no reason for any inconsistencies (sh*t she's making up) in the truth. The reason for any inconsistency is she is hiding the truth, which she doesn't want the authorities to know.

Think about times when you interview your kids for something they did wrong. Its easy to know when people are lying.
