My wife just recieved an email with the above link. it contains:

If the gun lobby and their far right allies in Washington, D.C. get their way, Maine will no longer be able to make its own decisions about who can legally carry a hidden gun.

Domestic abusers, drug addicts, stalkers, people with violent arrest records and even people with absolutely no training who have never held a gun before could be granted a concealed gun permit in another state, and Maine would have to honor it -- no matter what.

A coalition of more than 600 mayors from across America is mounting an aggressive campaign to stop this dangerous legislation before it becomes law, and I’m asking you to step up and help out.

What the hell is this about? anyone have any idea? Is this just more anti BS? I assume it is about the CCW reciprocity act.

    That's what I thought.

I love how they explain to the poor unsuspecting reader that Domestic abusers, drug addicts, stalkers, people with violent arrest records could be granted CCW.

    Nevermind what federal law is...

the more i look, the more lies i see. Blatant, not even slightly hidden lies.

    I sent them an Email.
I recently was forwarded an email from your group that states the
"Domestic abusers, drug addicts, stalkers, people with violent arrest records " could be granted concealed carry permits. I was curious to know what states allow these sorts of people to have a concealed carry permit, as it is my understanding that federal law states that anyone with any of these convictions is not eligible to posses a firearm.

I am confused and look forward to your explaination. Thank you very much.

    Lets see what they say.

QUOTERight now, Congress is considering a bill that would force all states to recognize out-of-state permits for carrying concealed handguns, even when those out-of-state permits are held by:

    •People convicted of assault
    •Domestic abusers
    •Drug addicts
    •Stalkers
    •People with violent arrest records
•People convicted of illegal firearms possession
    •Sex predators
    •Habitual alcohol abusers
•People with zero training who’ve never touched a gun before
    .

Exactly how many states issue CCW permits for people in these categories?.

Actually, a handful of states do not require any training for possession/carry (PA), but the rest of your points stand.

By the same logic, should we not honor drivers licenses from states that don't use graduated licensing models?

I'm suprised they did not add "Tea Party" to the list!

Not a "Federal Issue"? The 2nd Amendment?

Well I guess if the 2nd Amendment is not a Federal Issue then neither is the 1st, 13th, 14th, and 15th!

Let each individual state decide the extent of Freedom of Speech and whether or not an individual person can be kept as "property". Abortion? Sh1t, the Constitution is totally silent on that one, right? Not a "Federal Issue" either!!

Here's my favorite quote, off of one of the article links:

Do concealed-carry laws lead to increased gun violence? The Violence Policy Center counts 319 people killed by concealed-handgun permit-holders, although it’s hard to know what role, if any, the permits played in those killings. Crime is complex. But common sense needn’t be: More hidden guns increase the potential for violence, and that can’t be good.

So how many of those 319 were bad guys who needed to see their threat stopped?

Goudy: How many men have you shot since you became a marshal, Mr. Cogburn?
Rooster Cogburn: I never shot nobody I didn't have to.
Goudy: That was not the question. How many?
Rooster Cogburn: Uh ... shot or killed?
Goudy: Oh, let's restrict it to "killed" so we may have a manageable figure.
