and while I figured there would be few pistols available, I was amazed to see the shelves completely empty except for four Kimbers! There were no other semi-autos at all. There were shotguns and bolt action 22s but that's it. The good news is that there was no waiting at all. Didn't even need to take a number! :lol2:

I was able to pick up a few boxes of shotgun shells for trap shooting but I'm glad I wasn't trying to find ammo for anything else. There were a lot of bares spots in the ammo racks as well.

It's been that way for a while. There's hundreds and hundreds of AR's and handguns....they're just all sold and waiting to be picked up. For a little bit, we had essentially no space in the gun room for new guns because the space was taken up with guns that were already sold. Now there's no inventory to sell and the sold guns are starting to get picked up so the back room is emptying out as well.

It's going to look like this for a LOOOOOONG time. Remember back BEFORE sandy hook and the re-election of OBAMA? Ruger had to shut off new orders for 90 days because they couldn't keep up with demand. They're still working at roughly that same capacity, but there is MUCH more demand now. Gun companies would be fool-hearty to open up more production, just to have to take a loss on that investment if bad laws come around, or demand falls off. They don't want to pull a crispy creme and go bankrupt from over-expansion.

I heard that Olin's stating if nobody bought any ammunition anymore starting today, it would take about 9 months to catch up to a point where stores had the ammo availability they had before obama got re-elected. Get used to empty shelves being the new norm for a couple years.

and yet at least 50% of my conversations behind the counter start with, "Soooo...what? You guys getting out of the gun business or something?". It's amazing how many people have absolutely no clue what is going on right now. Last sat, had a conversation with a customer that went like this...

Customer: Hey, where's your handgun ammo and .223?

me: It's sold out right now

customer: What? Why? Are you just not ordering it or something?

me: We're ordering it sir, but elections have consequences and people are freaked now at possible 2A infringements that could be coming so they're buying everything up.

customer: Pshhh, that's just made up by gun companies and people that are trying to sell stuff. Nothing's going to get banned

me: Well, they already banned them in cali and ny, there's bills in colorado and sb281/hb294 will probably be passed here in md in the next week or two. They're not made up, they're actually happening.

customer: yeah, they really need to pass some common sense gun laws since newtown. There's no reason for people to have battlefield weapons

Me: what ammo did you want again?

    customer: 9mm and .223

me: riiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggghhhhhhtttttttt..........welp, good luck with that.

That sounds like it would have been the perfect opportunity to let him know what was actually in the bills. Have him realize that the firearms that he owns are what they are going after. Then again, in a business setting I can see not wanting to push a customer away but I think that was a chance to bring another person over to our side.

I have this same conversation at least once every night I work at the shop. People here on mds are a lot better informed then your average joe off the street. Do you have any Idea how infurating its is to have three people in a row ask you if your going out of business because your shelves are empty ??
Them when you take the time to inform them they just don't care.
My favorite is " well if you don't have any 9mm I will just go to walmart they always have it" Yea GOOD LUCK ASS CLOWN

Tell them good luck and if one is out encourage them to keep trying the others. If they're that dumb it'll take them a tank of gas or two to figure it out :-D

THESE are the guns that need to get confiscated! If these people can be so ignorant, I deem them too f***ing stupid to have a firearm.

Blue Fins Bait shop on Wise Avenue in Dundalk has a pretty good selection of handguns right now. Also, they have 5.56 in stock though a little pricey for me at $18.60
