Anybody seen the new black and white Daryl Dixon fig in their WalMart travels? I need two of them for gifts. These just came out this week and are hard to find at the moment.

Just saw some at the Barnes and Noble in Gaithersburg. They are in a cardboard display in the middle of the store.

I got there around 11:30 or a bit later. They had .22 LR and .22 WMR behind the counter.

Wife was with me, so picked up two boxes. It did not look like there was a lot more back there though.

I picked up some 22 at 2A a couple weeks ago. But of course that was just luck of the draw. I've been back there three more times for other things, and they haven't had anymore.

Buy ammo at your local shop. Too many are closing down because of SB281. keep the local shops alive, buy your ammo there.

The shops aren't closing because of SB281. They are closing because people aren't buying guns. They are capitulating by not getting a HQL and thus allowing Frosh to have his victory.

Uh, more likely most people overspent last year and are still recovering.

Of the three MD gun stores that have closed in the last year, two had LOUSY customer service. And one, the owner was getting older, lease was coming up on renewal, FFL was coming up on renewal, and he made a pile of money last year, so he retired.

Best I recall, across the center of the state, the casualties were more like 6 or 7 shops, though I couldn't tell you any of their circumstances.

IMO, any shop who didn't bank their windfalls in the pre-Oct run to hold them over for the next year did themselves a disservice.

The best way of 'banking' the windfall would have been to use the revenue on a move of the business to a different state.

Which 6 or 7 went under?

Sorry, but I no longer have the list, and couldn't tell you off the top of my head.

I was trying to compile it for some research I was doing, but the input level was underwhelming, to say the least.

    OK.. found it

Just in the little we collected there, 7 shops closed, 1 never opened, and 2 dealers moved out of state. Silverado Gun Shows can be added as a "move" also.

Did you read the thread you linked to?

Several of the shops listed as closed, have not closed. Some moved. Some moved out of state. Some were incorrectly reported as closed.

Also did you read Lou's post about the amount of business in his store?

And that a couple of the others that DID close, had crappy customer service?

Small businesses close all the time. It is actually rare for a small business to remain open for 5 years. The vast majority close well before then.

I still have not seen one place that closed because of ONLY FSA2013.

Did you notice it was my thread? The intent was to see if there was a connection between FSA13 and more than the few Beretta/Precision type situations we already knew about, and maybe even come up with a significant economic impact assessment.

Did you notice that practically no one was giving any detailed input that would have clarified exactly the things you are pointing at?

Have you spoken with any of these shop owners/dealers who have given you any insight into the reasons they closed or moved?

I stand by the little information I was able to confirm on my own. As for the rest, due to a lack of research help, I chose to abandon the effort as the remainder of the information was anecdotal at best. But, even anecdotes have at least a grain of fact, and the circumstances can reasonably be extrapolated to even as little as a "likely" result.

I have talked to more than one shop owner about The Gun Rack situation.

And several of the other shops that closed have threads here about how crappy the customer service and basic business practices of the shops were.

And a shop closing within 6 months of FSA 2013 going into effect is, IMO, not closing due to FSA 2013, they are using it as an excuse. 6 months is not enough time to see how it really affects their business. Again, read Lou's post about levels of sales.

And look at the GOOD shops. They are going along and doing business and not whining about FSA2013 killing sales, they just keep selling.

It may have made things a bit harder, and some lost sales of handguns to people who don't want to jump through the HQL hoops. But how many of those come back later and DO the HQL and buy? It takes people time to get used to the new way of doing things.
But the good shops are still in business and seem to be staying in business.
