Can't wait to post my build in here, may be a couple more months due to $$, but lets just say she's gonna be a beauty! Still need barrel, gas block/tube, handguard, and a few Phase 5 goodies.

Ya I'm in the same boat. Money is tight during the holidays. I can't wait to show mine off either. I'm going way outside the box on this build. I just need 2 more parts and to decide if I want to duracoat it myself or have some else do it.

Any suggestions on the next barrel size? I have a 7.5 now. What's next? 10.5, 11.5, 12.5? Thoughts? Suggestions?

An 11.5 inch barrel (unpinned flash hider) plus a Radical Firearms pistol buffer tube will give you an overall length of 26 1/16 inches. This will allow you to legally attach a vertical forward grip. Plus, the SB15 will sit flush against the receiver end plate.

The homepage of BATFE's technical section posts an opinion that no VFGs are allowed on pistols. It does not give a minimum length. It seems to say a VFG added to any pistol makes it a AOW

Well I built both the lowers a few months back. All I really did was slap the two complete uppers on when I got home from work.

If it's > 26.5" OAL, it is not a pistol. It is a "firearm".

Mark is 100% correct. Below I have two lowers. The top lower receiver was purchased stripped and never assembled as a rifle. The bottom lower receiver came from a rifle and is registered as a 7" barreled, 26.25" OAL SBR.

BOTH OF THESE LOWERS WERE PURCHSED AND BUILT INTO FIREARMS BEFORE THE FSA'13 WAS PASSED INTO LAW.

I placed a yard stick with black tape at the 26" mark. As you can see with a 7" upper and SIG brace it is an AR pistol. The SBR has a 11.5" upper with vertical grip.

When I switch the uppers, the top AR with an OAL >26", a SIG brace, vertical pistol grip.

It is not a pistol because it has a vertical pistol grip.
It is not a rifle because it does not have a buttstock.
It is not a SBR because it does not have a buttstock.
It is not an AOW because it has an OAL >26".
It is classified as a title 1 firearm

The lower SBR is still a SBR.

Well it was a long winter, and living in Baltimore I admit to not getting out and shooting as much as I wanted to.

I moved back to WV about 4 weeks ago and finally got to get these out to shoot for the first time this past weekend. Both shot great without any issues and the MBUS I put on were dialed in pretty good with no sighting necessary.

If you're looking for quality, affordable complete uppers to throw on a rifle or pistol build I would definitely check out the Radical Firearms uppers from Joe Bob's.
