Can you register an AR pistol with a brace as both a pistol and SBR? That way you can take it out of state without special permission and still able to shoulder it when you want.

LOL. I was just thinking I would pay the $200 and keep my brace. If I get told I can't I would just laugh. Then when confronted I would show my stamp. I think everyone who has an SBR should mount a SIG brace just to say we can.

First I will say I do not believe the current atf opinion on pistol braces can hold muster in court. Only in time will we find out.

    Reading this,

    http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/nat...ifles-shotguns.html#interstate-transportation

I would argue that only the very moment the pistol brace is touching the shoulder can it be considered a SBR. As a pistol you would be able to move and use it out of state without atf permission.

Since "redesign" of the brace by touching the shoulder is what "makes" it a SBR. It should be equally "redesigned" back into a pistol by removing it from the shoulder and holding it as a pistol.
SBR's move in and out of the purview of the NFA dependent on the firearms configuration not how it is registered.

bottom line is the ATF is being screwed out of money by Sig. and of course, no government agency likes money going right through their finger tips, so they have to find a way to stop it

At the Frederick Gun Show, I picked up a Sig Brace pistol off the table and the dealer told me to be careful not to put it to my shoulder--that the ATF was probably watching.

Remember that Washington State protest where everyone transfered mags "illegally" on the plaza at the State Capital? Maybe SB owners can have Sig Brace Shouldering Parties at every gun range in the USA on one particular Saturday once a month.

I can not possibly imagine that the process that the ATF goes through costs less than $200 in government labor.
I fail to see how this would really be a consideration.

    +1 on this

200 bucks I would wager, at MOST, covers 2.5 hours of labor. you figure the position is the average 75k a year fed employee, bust that to hourly your at 36.05 +taxes (the government does pay taxes on its employees.... confusing as all hell I know) + benefits (gov pays 2/3 healthcare, unless you are a postal worker.... then its higher, most of the pension... not the same as the old pension mind you, matches up to 5% in the 401k.... ) and then you have overhead costs tied to labor, utilities/employee, Easily costs the government $80 an hour likely more.

If it only takes 2 hours of TOTAL labor to process, how the hell does it take 3-12 months to process, even in free America?

now in 1934, $200 would have been about 3 months pay for the average American? granted, I bet most people on this forum would pay todays value on 200 1934's dollars to remove the 86 addition, as well as take silencers off the NFA, which would be about $3500 going by the official inflation numbers.

average in come in 1934 was right about $1600, 2014 was right about $53,000. as a % of income todays equivilant would be right about $6600 bucks.

so take silencers and SBRs off NFA, and allow new MG's, and charge 5k a pop... go to town and rake in profits

Let's not forget how many of us have had a conversation or several with our examiner and or had to resubmit or make changes. It adds up fast.
anyway, my point was just that the $200 tax stamp scheme is not a gov get rich quick scheme as mentioned.
years ago it was a lot more money.

Also, I would never shoulder my 3 sig braces. That's why I have SBRs.

Shoulder a Sig brace? I just hold it against my ass when I shoot! Wonder if that's legal?
