Do the ends ever justify the means? Or is that only when "your side" stands to win?

Politics in America has been out of control for some time. It's looking more and more like whatever may be at risk is no less than the future of our great country. It's also looking more and more like either party will stop at nothing to win.

Whenever one must lose so the other may win, there will be no compromise. Where there is no compromise, there can only be winner and losers...we, my friends, lose in almost every calculus going forward.

Looks like those folks who have invested in and currently wear tin/aluminum foil may not be too far from right.

    We are in deep shit.

Depending on which side of the argument you are on.
Naturally I'm talking about the anti-gun side. Gun cases rarely survive to SCOTUS as a win for the pro-gun side, the appeals courts use whatever shady methods they can to nullify every pro-gun ruling that emanates from district court. Peruta has no doubt already been eviscerated by CA9 (they're just waiting for the right time to release the ruling) and CA4 is certain to follow CA9's lead on Kolbe. Even if the Senate grows a spine and refuses to confirm anybody nominated by Obama the 4-4 tie means that the anti-gun side always wins. That's why I foresee a rush of new rulings in the coming days.

My point being we/society care more about Swisher Sweet stealing Gentle Giants who reach in and grab a police officer's pistol than we do about a linguini and meatball noshing Sicilian SCJ. :)

I dunno. If they can find a justice who won't overturn Heller, that's pretty much all I care about. If we can get a candidate friendly to our cause to win the presidential election, we'll get further picks in the court eventually. A lot of SCOTUS is old.

As much as I want to agree there are many more ways that a bad SCOTUS could destroy this country then just reversing Heller. Granting POTUS broad, unchecked EO powers for example.

A reversal of Heller would be devastating, no doubt. But it can't be the only thing we watch out for.

The biggest challenge to SCOTUS is states and localities ignoring its rulings, which happens regularly now.

Remember "contempt of court"? That only happens on old TV reruns.

I thought that was a "no no". At least that's what the Dems and Republicans said when Obamacare was working its way through. Wasn't Cruz villainized for "Filibustering"?

Only Republicans get villainized fer filibusterin'.

    Leaning towards the middle?

The Conservative Justices are doing that now.

If they lean any more, they're going to become Leftists.

Call and write McConnell. Tell him that we'll all jump ship and vote for Clinton or Sanders if he confirms ANY ONE.

What makes you think McConnell cares, so long as he keeps HIS seat? In fact, I wonder whether the mainstream Republicans are out of their comfort zone in the majority, and would prefer to return to their traditional role as loyal opposition.

We need McConnell outta there, and the young bucks like Cruz, Rubio, and Paul to be locking horns with Schumer, Leahy, and Durbin instead of each other over who sits in the big chair.

Shutting down the government is only bad when Republicans do it.

Not when Democrats, Occupy, BLM, union strikes, or any other Leftist organization or cause does it.

Republican POTUS doesn't assure an Originalist or Conservative Justice

    Ford gave us Stevens

    Reagan nominated Kennedy

Bush 41 gave us David Souter

Justices have veered left after taking their seat on the bench.

That's the truth. And for some reason the Dem appointments never veer right. Only Repubs seem to. It's like Hillary going 6 for 6 in Iowa coin tosses.

Reports are coming out now that the justice of the peace ruled the death of natural causes over the phone. That, and he was found with a pillow over his head... Certainly possible is nothing, but an autopsy might have been prudent.

    http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/lo...owner-recalls-Scalia-s-last-hours-6830372.php

When Poindexter tried to awaken Scalia about 8:30 the next morning, the judge's door was locked and he did not answer. Three hours later, Poindexter returned after an outing, with a friend of Scalia who had come from Washington with him.

"We discovered the judge in bed, a pillow over his head. His bed clothes were unwrinkled," said Poindexter.

"He was lying very restfully. It looked like he had not quite awakened from a nap," he said.

Scalia,79, did not have a pulse and his body was cold, and after consulting with a doctor at a hospital in Alpine, Poindexter concluded resuscitation would have been futile, He then contacted federal authorities, at first encountering a series of answering services because he was calling on a weekend.
