My wife and I loved this. We've been following this thread together for the shared laughs and tactical face palms.

Just to keep the discussion going...

After you press check a pistol you smack the back to simulate using the forward assist. :)

Sorry, you will have to wait for the next Video like everyone else!

I was multitask training this morning and injured myself.

Some people clean their guns after each trip to the range, well I shower with my AR each morning. I mean really, are we in the dark ages where we dont take cleaning our guns and ourselves with importance?

So, not only am I showering, im cleaning my AR. I decided to put on a Magpul DVD and watch it while I shower and clean my weapon system platform. Now Im doing 3 things at once.

Well, costa and haley are so handsome, so naturally a chub was the result. So now im doing 4 things.

While Im doing 4 things at once, I felt my gut rumble. I thought to myself about efficiency of motion. Why GET OUT of the shower to poo? Ill just drop some loaves and mash them up with my heels. Now im doing 5 things, plus exercising (how much excercise depends on how much cheese and fiber you eat).

Well, this is not enough efficiency, I NEED to practice my night time drills so I yell for my kids to come turn the bathroom lights off so I can practice night time press checks. They do and my hands are covered in shampoo, so I cant drive the charging handle forward so I use my man parts to drive the charging handle. The tub is slippery from red wheel bearing grease, mobile 1, shampoo, #2 remnants, and other stuff. I SLIP and I lose my balance in the dark.

The bolt is still not in battery.

    Wow!

I wondered why this thread had gone a dozen pages... now I know.

Yes kiddies, this is Maryland Shooters: the Firearms Forum for the 3%.

And this is the new 3% thread.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Erno, forget everything about press checks and Magpul DVDs and FAs. It all comes down to you have this fixed idea that by driving the CH you are ADDING momentum to the BCG. You said as much several pages back, then later backpeddled, saying you were just preventing the CH from slowing the BCG.

No, you said pushing the CH was transmitting additional force to the BCG. That is the heart of the entire controversy.

If you could push the CH faster than the spring is pushing the BCG, all you would do is is separate the CH from the BCG, as is shown in the video above.

Pushing the CH will do NOTHING to help the BCG lock up in battery. It's not physically possible. THAT is what everyone is on about.

I think Clandestine correctly guessed the source of your misunderstanding of Costa's point. Costa wants to emphasize the importance of NOT RIDING THE CH (probably the source of the OP's problem). As Clandestine pointed out, that's probably all Costa was saying.

You can't "drive" the CH. All you can do is get out of the way.

All the talk about FAs and press checks is secondary.

When you "drive"/"snap" the charging handle forward while performing a daytime press check, you will add additional momentum to the BCG, because you take away a lot of the drag that the charging handle impedes on the bolt carrier group.

I don't think that anybody can push a charging handle forward fast enough to get ahead of a closing BCG on an AR; with recoil spring force behind it.

I responded to the OP about a press check tactic that Costa showed and explained on the Magpul DVD - The Art of the Tactical Carbine Volume II, for daytime/nighttime press checks that eliminates the need to use the Forward Assist.

By Costa's method of "driving" the charging handle forward to fully seat the bolt for a daytime press check, without using the Forward Assist has been successful for me at the range --- BECAUSE IT WORKS!!! Try Costa's method {daytime press check} on the range when you have a chance...and then come back here {or p.m. me} to tell me that Costa or myself has it all ass backwards, in relation to daytime press checks without having the need to use the FA.

If you don't have a range...you can come as my guest on a weekend shoot at ACC @ Marriottsville, so I can prove it to ya.
