Art, would you ever consider added a dueling tree to one of the stages? I guess it might be a pain to reset... but it would force me to practice vertical stringing.

Don’t hold me to this, but I think they have in the past.
We do indeed have one. I sometimes hit my head on it in the shed. It has come out for practice events and training. For matches, resetting is indeed problematic.

It would be nice to set it up early on Stage 2 (like the plate rack was last match), so that after the shooter clears it and moves forward past it, squadmates can safely reset it while the shooter is still downrange on the clock. Unfortunately, the bottom few (or more) targets are too low to be that far uprange. Misses hit the grass. In addition to not being turf-friendly, skipping bullets off the ground just isn't safe. :(

Ok, put it way downrange by the berm. Then the bullet skipping problem solved...but reset is even worse. Somebody has to go further downrange (in front of the shooter) to reset it. The shooter can be safely walked down past the tree so it can be reset, but that wastes time. This makes them walk even further downrange...which means further back as well. He or she might be tired from already running down there and/or is anxious for their next string. Another option would be to clear the shooter and send them back while squadmates reset. That works fine for holsters, but not if the shooter doesn't have one or for PCC or Rimfire Carbine. We could just have a squadmate carry the PCC case downrange for the shooter, but there is still time spent clearing and ensuring that the firearm is safely and securely cased before someone goes down to reset...and we have to wait for the resetter to return to make the range hot and reload the shooter for their next string. It's also more fiddling with the gun...not at a table, by someone who is puffing with adrenaline and having just sprinted...so safety is also a concern.

Mostly, though, it just burns a lot of time between strings, and now that we are usually full, that adds up. Check my math, but if every shooter took one minute longer (from beep to "good shooting, next shooter!"), which is not an unreasonable expectation for clearing and resetting twice, the match would end an hour later. That makes for a long day for everyone.

We've also tried not resetting it so that each shooter gets the configuration that was left to them by the previous shooter...but one or two will always get stuck behind :rolleye12

HOWEVER, I really appreciate feedback and will definitely take it into consideration. Maybe we could just use the top 3 targets on it. Or, put it at the berm and only require 3 (or 4) of them to be hit. That way, any that get stuck back can be not-reset, as long as 3 (or 4) are showing. They might just work their way around on their own as the others swing back and forth. It may give a slight advantage to the first shooter who would have all 6 to choose from...but... Sometimes our other stages are influenced by an element of chance as well. We can pro-rate the prize money accordingly ;)

Another possibility would be just doing one string per shooter, like AGC's falling steel (or IDPA, or most other disciplines), with the squad resetting between shooters. Personally, though, I really really like a second chance to improve or try something different (which often means pushing too fast and actually recording a longer time :o )

I don't think it's official yet, but I'm pretty sure we're going to have to cancel this Sunday :(. We normally aren't afraid of the weather unless it is very severe, but there are other factors involved this time...the forecasted storms just make it even worse.
I hate doing this, and I've been delaying making the announcement in the hopes that circumstances would change. I'm sure now this will make the sun will come out on Sunday. :rolleye12 . Look for the official email from practiscore soon.
    Sorry shooters.

See you next month, on 10/22

We're ok. Thanks for asking. It's just a scheduling conflict that I thought I could get out of but just can't...and my backup guy is otherwise committed too.

I need to get some more willing folks trained to run these things just in case :innocent0

I really hate cancelling, especially now that there is so much interest. The decision was not made lightly, but, unfortunately, it looks like the right decision. I really hope the weather is crappy enough that everyone is glad they stayed home and dry anyway.

Registration is open and already half full.

    It's on 10/22, so I figure I'll shoot a 10-22

Weather looks like rain the day before, which may limit our movement :sad20: , but so far, doesn't look like enough to shut us down. :fingerscrossed:

I don't know why turnout was low, but I think everyone still had a good time. In honor of the date, Katie and I both ran 10/22's. Hers (which is really my old one...old enough to have a metal trigger group and SR logo) ran fine...it always does.
I shot my Kingston Armory 10/22 clone Garand. It didn't run great with the big mags :o. Stoveman would have been rolling his eyes :rolleye12

I have several videos, but coming from the GoPro they need to be edited down (and it's tedious with my outdated computer). The easy one was my "fun run" of the big stage. We were waiting for the tractor to help us pick up the steel. Normally, the tractor only does the plate rack. This time, my squad was tiny (6 guns but only 4 individual shooters) and we finished long before the plate rack was done anyway. So...while Bill went to retrieve the tractor to help us, we played around a little bit.

I put 8 rounds in each of my mags to make it feel even more Garandy for this fun run. Unfortunately, I didn't take the time to check the zero on the GoPro...so it's fine footage of the gun and the ground...the targets, not so much :o :

Fortunately, my squadmate Frank (who I hope to share a squad with again) got some 3rd person footage that he was nice enough to share :party29: :

And, WTF is that very first target?!?!? PAPER?@?@?!!!?#?$% :mad54: On a Steel shoot??? :shocked3: :wtf:
As luck would have it, several paper targets were donated to the club. Because, sadly, they would not last long if they were just set out for the use of the general membership, the higher ups offered them to the Steel shoot, if I wanted them. Sure, paper is a little more involved to score than steel, but you can shoot it multiple times (doubletaps on steel aren't always easy to accurately identify) and you can shoot it CLOSE. So, that's what we did: Two hits on paper and close range.

The paper targets need a little tweaking, but I didn't hear anybody complain about them. They just might show up again ;)

Here is Stage 4 (at least, the "best of," when the gun, timer, and shooter all worked properly ;) ). It was a simple stage, but with a little bit of a speed trap. It sure would be easy as you're swinging past those nice fat fast targets to skip the little round one down low and blaze right into the stop plate, wouldn't it? I didn't :innocent0 but I know at least one shooter did :evilgrin3

Stage 1. For the record, I didn't design this one. I think it's backwards...but when you send somebody up the hill with pile of steel saying, "dealer's choice, just make it safe," sometimes, you get what you get  :p

Sorry we couldn’t make it this time but a weekend away with the family was priority. Besides I want to wait until it’s really cold.

Just got a 322 I may need to run next time. We shall see.

Maybe ammo prices starting to bump
Up a little and the colder weather stopped some people from showing. Or maybe since we weren’t there……… lol.

Next time ;)...which is 11/19. It is the THIRD Sunday, not the usual fourth because hunting season will close down the range from 11/25 through 12/9.

On another scheduling note, there is an RSO training course on 12/2. We need all the trained RSO's we can get (we've been a little light lately), so please consider getting certified.

Uhh...I mean, mayyybe. Wait. I thought you already took it? I don't have the authority to make it happen, but a club sponsored scholarship to the class sounds like a pretty good idea. Your consistent helpfulness would make you an ideal candidate, too.

I was joking. I took an rso class years ago. Think they expire. No expert. I should just take it again anyway.

This video got caught in some kind of dimensional vortex with youtube's processing. Maybe because it is long and boring...full of rimfire problems. @Stoveman would have probably been losing his mind! :poke:

But...it's real, and shows the real challenges and learning experiences. My help on the timer and tablet were both new, so this was a good learning experience for them. Maybe you'll learn something, too?
