Well, I finally got started on the Colonial this week. Had a lot of fun assembling it. The barrel tang/bolster took more inletting than I expected after watching Jim Kibler's videos, but good practice. The Chambers lock is incredible and required very little inletting to install. A nice seemless fit with the barrel and flash hole too.
Anyway, the rifle is all assembled and is ready for disassembly and finish work (filing, polishing, sanding, etc.). Now to choose the finish. I may keep the barrel and lock in the white, but not sure yet.
For those of you contemplating these kits, they seem well worth it to me and high quality. I'd say I spent a little over 3 half-days on the assembly. It's my first one, so will go faster next time. Definitely a lot of fun.
A set of pics attached. Next update when I am into the finishing.
