The regulation is just another ridiculous Maryland gun law. 1200 fpe for long guns. 700 for handguns, 400 for airguns and around 30 for archery..

So if i use my G20 with a 6 inch barrel i can get just over 700 and be legal. If i use the same ammo out of a 16 inch 10mm carbine i can't get 1200 but it's more than 700 but it's illegal..

Just another law to ignore as far as im concerned..
I had long phone conversation with Paul Peditto of the DNR about this very subject. He agreed that it didn't make sense and it was something they were looking at and new rules may be forthcoming

    Eagles and birds of prey.
The persons proposing this nonsense more than likely have none whatsoever in their district to speak of. that can be readily pointed to.
There’s more eagles and buzzards abounding to where you can’t go nearly anywhere on the shore without seeing droves of them unless your blind.
Eagles, pairs of them literally perch behind the house here like seagulls at a dump.
This is only about imposing onerous stipulations on sportsman and gun owners by onerous city sh*tbirds who couldn't change a car tire or plan a birthday party for a five year old without consulting a liberal think tank or having to introduce themselves with pronouns at a gender queer party.
No study, no data, record keeping proof or anything of the sort just typical BS from politicians.
Just a another distraction to add to the morass of stupidity these people profess and another penchant for failure to manage environmental resources in an effective manner.
I hope it passes right away first time through so the more sooner I can ignore this garbage.

As arbitrary and ridiculous as this regulation truly is, I can't remember a time when this wasn't Maryland law. That said, I wouldn't put it past Maryland to "fix" the regulation by looking to ban handgun hunting.

I did the same just before deer season and was told it would be up to the MGA so don't hold your breath. I want to hunt deer with my 10mm highpoint carbine. Buffalo Bore makes a hard lead 220 grain round that gives me 704 fpe using a lone wolf 6 inch barrel in my G20. I can get about another 225 fpe from the highpoint but it still doesn't equal 1200.. it's just another random law that was passed eons ago and needs to come into the 21st century..

And.. i could easily see the MGA going the other way and increasing the minimum for handguns just to be dicks..

    Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

    Sure they do :sarcasm:

    The MGA Does Not Care.......

Again, the MGA Does Not Care.....

Let me say it again, the MGA Does Not Care.....

So, do you think the MGA really cares?????
I read somewhere, but can’t seem to remember where, that they in fact do not care.

Did you ask him how to calculate muzzle energy? He had many years to change this but now he is willing to change?

Off topic, I got a bridge to sell you…

Is it a law currently, or a regulation? DNR can change regulations. MGA makes laws.

Again, a regulation as far as I know. Stroke of the pen- “reg” of the land as Rush used to say.

I probably should not be surprised (I am kinda but I shouldn't be) but every time I tell people I know are hunters about this they have no idea. Don't care/are to lazy to do anything. Maybe if we who know about this tell more about it, it may help. I know, dreaming...

And that just opened the door for the lead ban :(
One of the main push backs was that there is NOT copper ammo that meets the 1200 ft/lb for many existing rifles used by MD hunters.

For anyone interested in the hearing last night:
Sen Young had a "Panel" of supporters, Summary is: Eagles are dying,, Copper ammo works in CA (high powered rifles) and even brought examples of center fired high powdered rifle copper bullets, so copper will work and is available for ANY form of weapon used for all of MD hunting.

As a kid, I never saw bald eagles around in Maryland. Then starting in the mid 2000s on the Eastern shore I started seeing them on rare occasions. Now, yeah, I head to the eastern shore and I don't think there has been a single daylight trip I haven't seen at least one, if not more than one. And I am seeing them on the western shore a lot now too, starting in the late 2010s. Just the other day on the farm near my place I saw a golden eagle (first time not out west or in a zoo I've seen one) on a ground hog. Later that day, a bald eagle was on what was left of the ground hog and it flow off into a tree a quarter mile away. A couple hours later, there were two bald eagles in tree talking to each other.

Damn cool stuff, but yeah, their numbers are all WAY up. I don't want to see them backslide, but I am not aware that non-fishing/waterfowl type lead in prey is any kind of legitimate issue for birds of prey, especially with their numbers rebounding so much.

APG is one of if not the largest active nesting sites in the USA for bald eagles. They shoot lead and all kinds of “other” ammunition. Eagles are not falling over dead there.

I've got so many eagles in my area of harford county it's insane. I've had 5 and 6 of then at a time on carcasses behind my house.

And I'm pretty sure there was even an article last spring, I think from the Chesapeake Bay foundation that eagles are pretty much at or beyond their carrying capacity in the region.

Head to the Calvert refuse transfer in Lusby,,, It's a regular street brawl between the eagles and buzzards.

Yeah there was an attempted murder of crows and a couple turkey vultures eyeing up the golden eagle just outside of "don't F with me" range. It really put the size of a golden eagle in to perspective for me being quite a bit bigger than a turkey vulture, which are not small bids. Man, that lady was gorgeous.
