      M1903 vs M1917

I’ve owned all three and I strongly prefer a 1917 over a 1903 or 03A3. There is nothing wrong with the 1903 but I think the 1917 is a better battle rifle. The 1903 has awesome target sights and I am a fan of the overall design, but I would take the 1917 every time. If you are talking...

      Wanted Century AP5

Looking for a Century AP5 handgun or a Zenith Z5P equivalent. Prefer new but would consider a lightly used example.

Smith and Wesson education request: Model 27 vs M1917 vs 38/44

I thought about this, but I’ve dropped the 38/44 from my choices because I can shoot .38 special from a model 27.

Smith and Wesson education request: Model 27 vs M1917 vs 38/44

I appreciate the info! From what I have seen, nice Brazilian contract models seem to run about the same as worn US military 1917 models. I assume quality is about the same? Does 27-2 have MIM parts or are they “old” S&W quality?

Smith and Wesson education request: Model 27 vs M1917 vs 38/44

I’m in the market for a new revolver, specifically a classic S&W N-frame. I’m looking for one of the following: 1. S&W Model 1917 in .45 ACP (prefer a good shooter US or refurbished US/UK Lend-Lease model, followed by Brazilian contract) 2. S&W Model 27 (pre-lock only) 3. S&W 38/44 Is there...

Chesapeake Sportsman Show February 9, 10, 11 Jarrettsville Fire Department Hall, MD

Walked out with some decent priced 44 Magnum and .32 ACP ammo, so it wasn’t a total bust. I like these smaller shows, but I fear that some vendors keeping shortage-level prices is going to hurt these shows overall. I saw prices all over the place, from okay to ludicrous. I’ll be back next...

The "MD Disapproved Handgun List" makes NO sense...and even contradicts itself

One of the most messed part up parts of all this is that Baby Browning clones like the PSP-25 and predecessor (and disapproved) PSA-25 are well-made and generally pretty pricey. I put about 60 rounds through my Bauer today. Works quite well.

      Elk Neck Range Closure

So where is an alternative rifle range that won’t bankrupt the average person and is reasonably accessible? (As in no wait for membership)

      Dulles this weekend

I went on Saturday - definitely a good spot for mags and smaller items, but many of the firearms were sky high, save for the milsurp guy in the front of the “big room.” He had reasonable prices on several items, even three very nice FN-49s: Two Luxembourgish and one Venezuelan. If I had the...

Remington Model 30 Express Proof Markings?

I recent picked up a nice Remington Model 30 Express in .30-06 that wears a Lyman 48S receiver sight. The rifle seems to be original (except maybe for the sight(?), but the sheer number of proof marks on the right side of the barrel have me puzzled. There aren’t any on the left as it’s marked...

Marlin-Ballard .22? What exactly is this?

Thanks for the info!! I’m sure the palm rest and the Lyman Polaroid sight were “later” additions. The rifle is drilled/tapped for a tang sight, which seems to be the norm based on my research. I did take an image of the extractor - not super clear but it looks like one, that’s for sure… I...
