      He used rifles before and was good at it according to him. I know "small & powerful" sounds like an oxymoron. "Medium sized & reasonably adaquate power" sounds more like it. He will have to go to the gun shop and take a look. Thank you.

      The rifle is Marlin centerfire level action rifle with a riflescope. It is really heavy too, I'd say not ideal to be picked up quickly during a crisis. Thank you for the info about registering the handgun. I need to take a day to do this. MSP is Maryland State Police, right?

      Sorry I wasn't clear. My friend, the business owner (not a gun shop:), wants to keep the rifle in his shop for his safety. Is this legal to do? (Like liquor stores often keep a handgun in the cashier's drawer on TV...)
