Its not so much that the angles are different its your shoulder not having the ability to absorb the felt recoil like you would when standing although different angles do play a lesser role in felt recoil. I bet that 35 Whelen packs a punch.

I recently purchased a CZ American 457 (left handed) and about 9 magazines with it. This gun for the money shoots like tack driver. I am very happy with it.
Get an AR pistol and keep it in one of those black, soft nylon cases where you can hide the strap until you need it. Along with 120 rounds of 5.56 in four magazines the weight it 16 lbs.
I keep a Sig P238 in a little cigar case. Excellent pistol that is lightweight and unobtrusive. The only downside is the condition one because on occasion the thumb safety can be bumped to the off position and because of that reason I do not normally conceal carry this pistola.
