How many of you guys have changed the gas plug to the adjustable one to shoot modern ammo? If so how's the performance?

Other than not damaging anything when firing modern ammo, I haven't noticed any difference.

    Yikes.:shocking:

Mine's been rebarreled in .308. I was planning on shooting 147 gr 7.62 NATO. Is this adjustable gas plug the one that takes a big Phillips screwdriver?

I assume this is an adjustable gas plug?

My comment referred to 30-06 ammo through an unmodified-vintage M1.

Having seen more than few damaged op rods, I would disagree with the guy in the link that called a myth though.

    Thank you for sharing that.

When I bought it a few guys there told me that, not to contradict A1, that this only really becomes an issue when getting toward the heavier end of the bullet weight spectrum here.

If you fire new commercial .30-06 in an un modified Garand you will damage your oprod. .308 conversions are a different story.

Well, ain't but one way to find out.:)

If it feels like it's beating the rifle too bad I reckon I'll have to make some changes.
