Anyone have a can that they bought , that after getting out of jail, you realize another can would have suited your needs better or just been a better purchase?

Mine would be the dead air wolfman. After researching the griffin optimus 9, the griffin come with the actual ability to shoot many more calibers and with the parts needed to do so. Seems like a steal for what it does/ parts it comes with.

My wolf man is able to shoot several calibers, but not without having to buy into dead airs qd system and buying a micro brake for each firearm I intend to use it for. $225-$250 for the qd insert, )a lot of money for what it is imo ) plus $80-$90 per micro brake needed for each firearm intended for wolfman use. (556 or supersonic 300blk, 7.62x39 as examples). What you will need to spend in order to make the wolfman as modular as dead air claims, is really like 400-500 dollars additional at a minimum. At that point you almost may as well buy a .30 cal can (some will even do 9mm like the griffin and be done with it)

It comes with only 1 1/2 by 28 insert to mount with, so you can’t use on essentially anything but a 9mm pcc. In dead airs defense this is what it’s primary function was intended on, along with 300blk subs, but they don’t even ship it with a 5/8x 24 insert, so with out investing almost another 100 dollars minimum for an insert that will allow you shoot .300 subs only, you’re essentially paying quite a premium for a 9mm only suppressor.

    That’s my story/end rant

Any others out there with suppressor buyers remorse?

Thats the way it goes with cans. You buy into a mount system. It not just DA, but all cans have adaptors for different calibers. The 5/8x24 thread adapter for my SiCo cans about the same price. So either pick QD mount and get one for each hosts or buy the thread adaptors. You still will have to spend money one way or another.

My issue is a bit reversed.

I bought a SiCo Hybrid 46 and adapter specifically for use on an LWRC SMG45. Paid for both items in full... Well it was a nightmare getting the Hybrid 46 picked up, but at least Gym Ratz refunded the LWRC money. I now have a can w/o a designated host though.

Now with pistol braces in question, and SBR-ing the LWRC won't meet Maryland regs, will my dream of a Hybrid 46 on a SMG45 ever come true?

This is why I went with YHM for rifle cans. Mounts aren't stupid expensive and the cans are great for the money. YHM also hasn't changed their mount price points for years if I remember right. Plus the new cans being modular allow for direct thread or QD. My nitro even came with both mount adapters.

I bought an Omega from SilencerCo. It was pretty much exactly what I thought. For me direct thread is out of the question and I had no issue with getting QD FHs for each gun/upper.

Then came the OSS Suppressors. Now it would work on my M14 without an adjustment to the gas block. Now I would no longer need to screw with the gas blocks on my M16/AR15s.

So I sold the Omega, it got picked up last week. I hopefully only have about another month until the OSS is ready. I took a hit on the Omega but I have no regret. When I bought the Omega, it was still the right call as no one can know what will come in the future.

I suppose I’ve had to learn this the hard way. I do think however, if a suppressor is marketed for something , it should come ready for use on it from the factory without having to spend more.

If only YHM would come back in stock at Silencer Shop. I got tired of waiting on them and just wound up plunking down a bunch of coin on Dead Air suppressors.

    Earth, I think..........
    Kstone,
    Absolutely superb reply.

I took the advice of a mutual acquaintance and went with Rugged. Again mounts are not stupid expensive and common for all of their suppressors. Only issue I had was I wanted the Surge 762 and wound up buying a Razor 762 based on budget.

    Hope to see you soon.

I have 2 cans and short answer is no buyers remorse. One is a light fly-weight 22LR can which is perfect for a handgun, and the other a Rugged Radiant 30 cal modular can. Could I have gotten another brand? Saved $100 or $200? Perhaps. But I don't think I would have been any more happy. There seems to be a lot of great choices. I know the mounts are proprietary, but I am just going to stay with Rugged so it does not matter to me. Probably would also have been happy with Dead Air, YHM, or Q.

Any of these cans on a 16" center fire rifle, while not Hollywood whisper quiet, will make the shooting experience infinitely more pleasant. It really takes the edge off. You have to experience to see what I mean. After the first three rounds I knew the money was well spent.

What 22 can did you end up with?

I own both the Griffin Optimus 9 and the Dead Air Wolfman. I think the Optimus is far and away the better “universal” can, but the Wolfman works a lot better for a PCC can. It sounds really good. I think the Griffin Armament Bushwacker Gen2 is better than both for a true plug and play universal setup, though.

The Dead Air Wolfman was a bit of a misstep on the advertising and delivery fronts, in my opinion. Came out with mad hype about what it offered with the KeyMicro setup, then DA spent a year trying to get KeyMicro into the hands of the end user. I ended up buying one for my C3 junkie pattern RDB setup. If I had known that the Rex ModX existed (found out about that about 3 days after I purchased the Wolfman), I would have purchased that instead. I believe it is significantly heavier, but it can tolerate a lot more abuse. The Wolfman is great for what I purchased it for, just wish it was less expensive. In another case of bad timing, I bought the trilug setup for it right before the Griffin Armament Plan A setup for it was released, and I would have preferred that to trilug. So I don’t really regret its performance so much as I regret my impatience, first in not doing more research into other options, and then in my impatience not waiting for GA to release their Plan A setup. That’s kind of on me though. In the end, I’ve got a phenomenal PCC can that is light weight and doesn’t add too much length.

At least I didn’t drop hundreds of dollars on the KeyMicro adapter + KeyMicro compatible muzzle devices.

How about making a purchase, waiting a year for the pickup, and watching the market offer better options in the meantime?

All this waiting is ridiculous. It's the same clearance that you can get in far less time, but slow-walked through additional layers of bureaucracy - for which you have to pay an extra $200.

Country really needs a reset. Four years of communist leadership might be just the ticket to bring it on.

Even socialist Europe will let you buy a can cash and carry.

Well written sir. Quite a bit of this is how I feel regarding my wolfman purchase. It’s a great 9mm can, but for what I paid for it, I feel like I should have gotten the qd insert and a brake for it, JUST LIKE THE SANDMAN COMES WITH FOR THAT PRICE. Lol
