If I had that furniture set I might be more inclined to leave it alone, but mine is the black polymer fixed stock version.
Mine originally came with the beaverbarf variant, resin impregnated with wood chips. I get it's authentic, but it's awful to see.

VZ 52/57 factory built in 7.62x39. It was the rifle adopted between their post war K98K and the VZ58. It's the Czech equivalent of the SKS but it uses a completely different operating system.

Yep. Push a button and out it pops. If used hard though, it had a tendency to crack the stock. The gas system was patterened on the MKB42(W) and the locking system was a tilting bolt with shaded of the P38 in it. When comparing the bolt and carrier to the VZ58, the lineage is clear.

How do you like the polymer handguard? What's removal for piston cleaning like?

The aluminum FAB hanguard i have is a bit heavier than I'd like, and doesn't allow for toolless disassembly. Has 4 screws. Would prefer some sort of detente spring system.

Well, I think it looks cool, but wasn't super comfortable to me, which is why I added the angled grip, but I plan to eventually add a vertical grip. It is light. The VZ is known for heating up pretty quick, so I added an aluminum heat sheild inside. I haven't shot it in a while, so I can't really recall how bad it is to clean the piston, but I recall it was a PIA to get one of the forend parts on, top, or bottom, can't remember.

That's a nice rifle, when I was looking for one all I could find where in 7.62×45mm. I did a quick search and that ammo was non existent at the time.
