From the back of the safe. Sadly, the original box is long gone, but the pistol itself is in pretty great shape. This example was made somewhere in the mid- to late-40's. She and her ilk held their own in bullseye matches all across country and she'll still perform today provided I do my part . The single action pull is heaven and breaks like a glass rod. The double action pull could use some work to smooth it up to a Colt's double action pull, but is still pretty nice - not gritty and breaks evenly and cleanly. I believe that 1957 was the last year for the 5-screw Smiths.

    Very nice, keep her oiled

Believe me, I do keep her oiled. For years, my Old Man kept her in a zippered sheepskin lined pistol rug under a piece of furniture (blasphemy, I know). That's where the little discolored spot on the right side logo came from. In my house, she lives on a nice, dry shelf in the safe with a light coating of CLP.

Yep, that was the spot screaming at me :o

Any chance, you can get a smithy to touch that up for you?

A K38 Masterpiece of this vintage is sometimes referred to as a "Pre-14." The K38s made prior to 1957 didn't have a model number. Starting in 1957, the K38 Target Masterpiece became the Model 14.

That's what I thought....saw a 14 in a pawn shop in Aberdeen for $295, and it looked remarkably similar.

I have a similar 1957 model 14 no dash with a target hammer and target trigger being worked on now at Scott's Gun Shop. Your picture is making me miss it.
