The hard part is finding published load data for magnum primers and I mean published not interweb recipies. The magnums burn hotter and can drastically increase case pressure.

I plan on reloading some 30-30, can I use large magnum rifle primers instead of large rifle primers?

    Thanks

You can when and where specified in a current load data manual in combination with certain powders and component combinations. Speer's current volume 14 manual (for example) lists several loads that specify the use of magnum primers. That being said, it is not a good idea to substitute magnum primers for standard primers outside of the realm of industry published data where their use is not clearly specified. What would happen if you were to deviate from that rule? I don't know for sure, and I would strongly suggest to you that neither does anyone else. It is always best practice to leave "what if" experimentation to the ballistics labs. That is a large part of why they exist. Hope this helps!

I use them for reduced lead bullet loads at about 1800 - 2000 feet per sec. There are no pressure issues with these type of loads. I would not use them when shooting a 150 gn JSP at 2500 FPS, no sense in taking chances.

I used to use magnum primers when it was really cold out. The normal primers would just go "click"
