I'm so glad that I found this forum. I bought my first gun on 3/11. Checked with MSP last Friday and they were processing 2/15. Still awhile to go. :(

This was my paperwork day too. Let me know when yours gets "Not Disapproved"!

Sorry, I mistyped the date yesterday. My 2/16 Glock got to come home today. Here she is resting after her first trip to the range. :D

Looks great Scotty. Looks like she was able to go to the Range and do the deed, even after resting at the Gun Store and getting all lethargic for 50+ days. MSP doesn't realize our weapons are like Thoroughbreds, they need to be taken out of the barn and worked

2/14, nothing yet. I'm seeing a lot of people saying 2/11 for the past two days, so I'm feeling pretty confident about picking mine up before Sunday.

I gotta ask this. With a known current approval wait time on this Forum of around AT LEAST 50+ Days, with FFLS telling people 7 weeks or more, why am I periodically seeing posts that people are calling MSP to "Check in" on wait times of less then 30-40 days. Folks that is not only holding your own paperwork up, but others as well.

Keep in mind that this Forum is but a small percentage of waiting individuals in the State of Maryland. You get 20 people calling per day, tying up an MSP Employee or Trooper up for 15 minutes per call let us say, that is 300 minutes (5 Hours) productivity lost from that MSP person or persons per day. Sounds pretty bad when you look at it that way doesn't it?. 20 people at 10 minutes is 200 Minutes or 3.3 hours per day of processing time lost, gone. How many applications do not get processed a day because of these calls is kind of disconcerting if you ask me.

Please, exercise some discretion and patience. If you haven't broke 55 days wait time, IMHO, then you really should not be calling or emailing. Waiting sucks, and I am more then qualified to make this comment as I just went through 56 days of it for 1 Lower and I am now on 46 days for another "selection" of evil weaponry as we speak. So I can relate.

But you CAN come in here and bitch all you want.

Mini Rant over. As always, just my opinion.

I am a designated collector and I purchased a 1911 .45 on Feb. 8th. I received my "Not Disapproved" on March 19th. That was 30 "Business days" (Mon. - Fri. - No weekends). The real timeframe was 42 calendar days. The sad part is that O'Malley has so many people "Panicking" to go and buy handguns and semi auto rifles, that he has created this mess. I also believe that he has told the MSP to drag their feet reviewing the handgun permit apps.

Currently, I have a Beretta .380, a Ruger Series III Target .22, a Custom S&W model 64 .38special, and a Browning Buck Mark Hunter .22 in the fray. The application dates vary from Feb. 26th to April 6th. I don't expect to see my Browning until the first or second week of June.

The Beretta (filed on Feb. 26th) is STILL waiting to be released and I have had work done on it - TWICE during it's vacation at the gun shop. I've overheard people in the gun shops say "I want to get one before Obama says I can't have one" and, The Government is scaring the hell out of me". This is the current atmosphere that these Anti-Gun Legislators have created.

The reality is that currently, you can expect anywhere from 45-to 60 Days before you will see your gun. This is all due to that Idiot in Annapolis and that Idiot in Washington.

The Obama administration explicit support of Feinstein's draconian bill, which bans the best selling rifle of the past 20 years, made by more than 80 companies, plus an assortment of other rifles in a "list" of what we cannot have, is essentially terrorism against the law abiding gun community. Look at the chaos this has caused in the firearm industry. I just got a Cheaper Than Dirt catalog that has pages and pages of ammo not available, with "----" for all prices. It is surreal. And these folks are not done. It is the start. I say this for those outside Maryland: get AR-15s (or lowers) for your kids and grand-kids while you can because as soon as Democrats take the majority in the House, they will ban the most popular rifle in the nation. We know they will do it. I was listening to the public radio Wednesday morning, just to keep track of what the enemy is up to, and they were interviewing this representative from NY, Hakeem Jeffries. I will be blunt: the guy talks as if this were Venezuela. "We need to ban all these semi-auto rifles, all these magazines, it's common sense". In other words, now for Democrats rights are defined by simple majority opinion polls. No need to amend the constitution. I can imagine 5-10 years down the road we will be listening in the radio to a discussion on the best seller books that need to be banned. We know once the cancerous logic is there it is just a question of time before it spreads. The majority dislikes Ann Coulter, thinks she is uncivil? "Ban her books!" It's coming, I believe it. Back to the 2A, this chaos on a national level has clearly demonstrated the intentions of the Democrats (our socialist party). The AWB on a federal level may have died for now, but it will come back. The Democrat party is in complete, full fledged assault on the most important amendment of the Bill of Rights. Once they get a chance to control the federal government legislature and White House, they will try to kill it. I say the most important because, well, read The Prince by Machiavelli ("The chief foundations of all states, new as well as old or composite, are good laws and good arms; and as there cannot be good laws where the state is not well armed, it follows that where they are well armed they have good laws.", chapter XII). Read 'That Every Man Be Armed', by Stephen Halbrook, with the endless quotes by our founders on the importance of all of us being armed. Is it coincidence that Switzerland, that has always been armed, has been around since the 13th century? My intention is not to preach to the choir but to highlight the importance of the 2A and of this fight going on in Maryland and on the federal level. The federal level may be a bit quieter right now, but the enemy is alive, well and will come back. Among other things, we need to triple shooters participation in groups like MSI and the NRA. The NRA has only four million members out of how many gun owners? Eighty million? In other words, a participation of 5%? That is ludicrous. This needs to move up to 15-20% or our rights will be history. Hunters out there, who love their bolt action rifles, your day is coming. If you think you can stay out of this fight because right now the gun grabbers are after semi-auto rifles, you are 100% wrong. Your day is coming if you do not start fighting now. Join MSI, NRA and SAF, for starters. For you bolt-action owners still sitting on the sidelines:

First they came for the communists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Catholic.

    Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

This wait time is ridiculous. But, who is to blame? I understand the men and women in the licensing department are doing all they can. What has their boss done? Surely they have more people available to get caught up? I don't see any delays in writing tickets. Are there delays in the amount of guns seized? Why aren't they giving the dealer a NIC # immediately and then run ntheir checks? After 50 days and tired of waiting, I called headquarters at 410 653-4200 and demanded to talk to the Colonel. They actually put me through to some boss, not the Colonel. I had my app approved in an hour. I'd flood them with calls to headquarters instead of the Licensing department if I were you all. Apparently, the guy answering the phone was worried about receiving calls there.

If you send the paperwork in with a $25 Expedited Paperwork Fee and a notary stamp marked urgent youll be getting paperwork back in under 10 days. I just made 9 days and got my call.

I would direct calls to the NICS customer support. NICS gave the MSP POC authority to receive the NICS number instead of the mandated process given to the FFLs. NICS is the department that can give FFLs back their rightful duties.

Assuming this is true, and I would hope you would not be telling us this if it were not, But if we all turned into the squeaky wheel we would be back to square one with the waiting. What you proposing only works if their is only one or two special cases the MSP had to simmer down.

While I applaud Publius for his fervor (and I wholly agree with him), I didn't mean to go "off-topic" with this thread, :lol2: I Do believe that we are facing the slanted political views of Martin O'Malley, and believe that he is PRIMARILY RESPONSIBLE for this backlog of application approvals. He was an a-hole when he was Mayor and now he's an a-hole in the Governor's chair.

I only see this waiting for paperwork time frame getting worse, particularly if O'Malley signs this abortion of a bill. There will be even more panic when people realize that it takes 2 months (or more) to get approved on a gun sale (Originally 7 days - remember back when?) and the law will be effective (from previous media statements) in October (that's 6 months, folks).

This is early April, and I will get my last purchase approved sometime in June. If I want anything that will be (supposedly) banned before the deadline, I guess I'd better get moving now.

Wow, how's that for more adding "panic" to the atmosphere?

Question; I can understand why everyone/anyone would want to rush out and buy one of the guns that you will not be able to buy after Oct 1st. But most of the gun paperwork that is clogging up the system are for guns that we can still buy after Oct 1st and not the guns these new laws have always been aimed at.

These anti-gun law makers battle cry has always been Assault weapons. So most run out and buy everything but.

You may not be able to buy your new Glock or Sig, or M&P with a mag larger then 10 rounds after Oct 1st, but you will still be able to buy it after Oct 1st and then you just go to PA for your 15-18 round mag.

And now that we know about the Oct 1st date and what it will bring, the rush for the most part is one anything that shoots and what I want to call everyday guns, (Glocks, Sigs, 1911's, S&W M&P's, Rugers, or whatever) has been going on for 4 months now. Same goes for 22LR ammo. What the hell. 22LR is not going anywhere but people are buying as if they are going to stop making it.

It would make sense to me if the MSP were backed logged with paperwork on AR's and the like, but I bet 1/3rd of the paperwork the MSP are processing is wheel guns and small carry guns that these laws do not touch.

It almost seems as if people just want to be part of the "just buy anything just for the sake of buying anything" movement.

I say if you want to buy something buy whatever you can't buy after Oct 1st. Not the ammo and guns that are not going anywhere. I just don't get it.
