Having issues with my C&R because I had to cancel my credit card before they processed it. Unfortunatey, nobody at ATF has a record of my application. I may just resubmit. Tempted to buy one of these, tho.

This is the toughest PU marking to find, AIM has at least a couple in the latest batch but they are holding them for themselves, only 2020 ever produced.

43 Tula I got from AIM last week. No rust under the handguard. All matching no ep or line outs. Nice war-time stock. Very good bore.

    Arrived today..

Got a 1943 rifle with a scope refurb on 1961... I am pretty happy. The rifle looks as though it is a little banged up from travel, etc. What should I use to wipe the rifle down and apply to the areas where the varnish is been knocked off?

I don't know what it is, but these snipers just don't do it for me. I love mosins as most of you already know, but I just can't justify the cost for my personal collection. Idk, maybe I am just looking into it to much. I just don't see me ever adding one to my collection.

i wrapped my scope in a paper towel them in a ziplock then wrapped it in an electric heat pad to get the cosmo off of it.

    the "varnish" is a shellac.

you could get some shellac and touch up those spots, thing with shellac is though, if you simply apply it, it will build up as a second coat not blend in and the spots will stand out.

shellac is soluble in alcohol though.

so the way to touch up, as opposed to applying a new coat, is to thin some shellac with denatured alcohol and then either use some steel wool to clean up the area first, then apply, or apply it using steel wool, use only 0000 gauge steel wool, you're not trying to sand anything.

mixed with DNA the shellac will blend in some with the old finish.

when you apply, you kind of start in the middle and feather it out.

    ^^^ This!

Same here. I'd probably get one if they were $250, or so, and I understand the attraction for others, but they just don't float my boat at that price, either. I'd rather put that much toward another Garand.

Still, they're probably a good medium-long term investment.

Folks, how are the optics on the ones that just came in.
I don't have one but I'm curious how one would clean up the optics. I would worry about getting any fluids inside the cavity where the lenses are. Let me know how you clean yours up. I'm curious if you can disassemble the the optics and how hard it is.

That's like saying an Enfield Sniper is too much money, I just want a regular infantry rifle, hey that's okay but you get $300 any day of the week for just the scope in most cases, and most of the owners have found they are either zeroed or close to it straight out of the box. Sniper rifles with original optics are in a league all by themselves, it's all about whether you want quantity or quality.

I have a LOT of scrapes on my stock. It looks pretty tacky-like it spent a few years in the bed of a pickup. I'm thinking about completely refinishing it.
