Let me start by saying I have read all I can and searched these forums to exhaustion.

What qualifies AK/ pseudo AKs to be legal in MD?

Can you post links to specific examples of each?

I have read about the unadulterated Saigas, PAPs, etc.

Does the current AIM offering qualify? Why or why not?

I appreciate any answers especially if you feel they have been covered. I just feel that they have not been covered in a single thread enough for my understanding.

Most importantly, could you post links to each variant that would be legal.

    Thanks so much.

The problem is that the assault long guns list has very expansive language when it talks about AK rifles. Further, even if you're nutty enough to hold with MSP bulletin 96-1 (which essentially contradicts the law), that particular rifle you linked to is NOT importable.

The answer to your question is: that rifle is banned in MD. It was designed and built to be an AK clone. I tend to go with Frank Ianmico in that the only direct AK derivatives really worthy of being called "not AKs" are the Galil, Valmet, and INSAS... and most Galils and Valmets are banned by name anyways.

Just face reality: you can't buy AKs in MD anymore, and stock Saigas aren't really all that great anyhow... you still have better options available to you.

Thank you for the reply and the information.

I'm not really looking for a saiga, and you answers the question well. Guess I am kicking myself for stocking up on the "other options" and not diversifying as much as I now with I had.

Just out of curiosity, what would you consider "better options?"

    Yeah I have the VZ.

556r looks interesting, but why not just get more VZs I guess is what I'm thinking. Don't need to stock different mags and parts, etc.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'm on the right track already. Just frustrated that I didn't grab an ak when I could.

If this were true, you wouldn't have posted this thread in the first place.
