    eezox seems to perform very well in corrosion resistance tests...remoil actually did alright too

    +1 for POR15. Used that stuff when I worked in a restoration shop. Incredible product, but I think it might be a little pricey for what you want to use it for. Some good ole' fashion spray paint and some moisture packs from shipping boxes etc. should do the trick.

    I have never had much of a rusting issue, on the ones I got rusted I just hit em with rustoleum.

    Guess it is all about storage.

    I'd probably hit at least the rusted part [if not all]of the can with some cheap oven cleaner from a dollar store and steel wool, then spray on OD paint. I've had to do this on occasion. Oven cleaner will really strip paint and is cheaper than the "official" paint stripper.
