For secutiry positions you can also look at allied security, commando K-9 security, and I'll think of the other main one in a min. Your going to be working in crappy areas in PG but I mean hey it's a job and a stepping stone. I have a buddy that got onto NASA police (security) I could snag some info from him if you'd want it. U.S. Park police is hiring and ICE just opended up a ton of special agent positions but they are next to impossible to get unless you have a super masters degree with 15 yrs LEO experience and speak spanish.

The only drawback to US Park is that you could be sent to San Fran.

what ever you do. don't look up anything that has to do with poly on the web. go in with a clean state of mind (meaning don't think you'll fool them). if you already have looked up about poly, let them know.
tell them everything. everything. everything. they are trusting you with info so they want to know if you trust them with your info. simple enough.

then you'll have nothing to sweat :)

I havent looked it up, just whats been said on here. I am completely honest when i do this stuff. Its hard to remember some things, im worried i may not remember correctly but just try to the best of my ability. I recall things that embarress me, stuff i want to forget, but i wont leave anything out on purpose. I talked to Uniformed Secret Service today at work. That wouldnt be a bad gig.

Im perfectly fine with that...its next to impossible to get a decent job here in the lovely state of MD, especially armed security so Ill take what I can get. Im done with I.T. work, Fire Dept's arent hiring, Im not a good runner so some Police Dept's I cant pass the run time. I am still waiting on Baltimore City Police...I had to write a letter. Balt County Fire, still in process. Federal Air Marshall...stilllllll in process....Andrews AFB Police, ap submitted, Ft. Meade Police, not hiring....Wackenhut, still waiting....this crap sucks around here. My current job is just temp, I dont see them getting the contract renewed. Talk about bored out of your mind, Im an escort. If there are no contractors to escort, I sit at the employee enterance and watch. The hardest part is staying awake. NSA, Ill gladly take it!:D

try the DOC, pays good and you can either work hard or just get by, I like hard work and building cases and finding weapons, but others like to just sit in towers and watch the fence, it's what you make of it.

uniformed secret service is a good place too. I know a guy that's one and he likes the job...also because he gets to carry off duty.

it's okay to tell about the most embarrassing moments. Just spill it out and the sessions will be easy.

Special exceptions for positions of trust especially in the LE field they can still ask shock questions. The pre poly for a retail job etc.... They cannot ask those questions.

My response to the sex with a chicken question.......... " is that with or without consent?" the examiner had a good chuckle at that.

I would rather revive an old thread than make a new one, but I was just curious how competitive the application process is as well as a general time frame from application to actual hire? I am in the testing process for Frederick city and Frederick county PD and also applied to the NSA for a police officer position. I would much rather make it to the NSA (although I would enjoy any of the above) and was just wondering if the process was similar to a local PD or if/how its different. Obviously if you don't want to put out that information publicly feel free to pm me! and thanks to anyone who has any insight for me

I can't speak for a lot of other places but to answer your time frame ?........your guess is as good as mine.

I applied and tested in Feb and received the "unofficial your hired" call he first week in may then stated the academy the last week in may. A friend of mine for MOCO applied and then over a year later (largely due to budget issues) was hired. The real three major hold ups to any application process are #1 budgets, #2 mental eval #3 physical. The mental eval is usually not an inhouse process so most departments have to wait on the results from whatever agency they contracted. The physical eval takes less time then the mental but I have had friends have to do it 2-3 times. One ate a steak the night before the exam and the doctor said he needed to come back because he had to much iron in his system, so you never know.

As fasr as being NSA police (sorry to the ones who are) but you are basically a glorified security guard. I would apply to capitol police before I took that job. At least there is better opportunity for advancement and to do other things besides post work, oh not to mention you have a larger jurisdiction so you can learn more about being the police. The problem with places like NSA and Capitol is that you don't get any real experience. You will get GREAT training I am sure but training is just a bunch of crap compared to experience.

I love the guys who have had tons of training and are the first to be like well things need to be done this way I know because I trained on it. My experience runs circles around training in 90% of real life situations. With that being said I would never turn down good training as it's just another tool to toss in the old box of things I can utilize.

I would say if you can take a local PD job id they decide to hire you. You can always use it as a stepping stone to other places. GL on your process.

    back from the dead...

So I work for a contractor in the NSA area and have a close friend that is an NSA "Cop" Shoot me any questions you have and I will get with my buddy to ask. Also after reading through this if anyone has ANY questions concerning the poly process let me know. It is not as bad or invasive as some think.

Just answer with Yes or No. Too easy.

Not for me when I did mine. Yea the questions are yes or no but the polygrapher was a doing lot of mind f'ing. Just assume anything they say is bs and don't change any of your answers. I went twice and was told I was lying about different things both times I went, I was also accused of trying to control my breathing. Both times the polygraphers left the room to check the results with their supervisors and left either a wallet or my folder on the desk in front of me, I'm guessing they watch to see if you dig through the stuff.

Very frustrating experience, I left Pissed off and frustrated both times. No idea if I passed or not as I terminated employment with the contractor before I was adjudicated.

This was for a clearance with the gov, not a LE job.
