    Here’s my thought

    Alec Baldwin needed one
...as much as Halyna Hutchins need these...

I remember some weird movie with two men drawing pistols. Then typing in the request to shoot. The first to receive permission to fire won.
There's always a hack; in the above example, use your gun to smash your opponent's skull while he's typing.

I remember someone devising a system for S&W revolvers, decades ago, that involved the owner wearing some kind of magnetic ring that would deactivate an internal safety. Supposedly it worked, but seemed kinda clunky conceptually.

Hell no. Anything that has biometrics to use is crap. Gun safes, phone, laptop, etc.
Get stuff on your fingers like caulk, glue, or grease and biometrics don't work. Even when clean they don't always work reliably and in the case of a gun for self defense it had better work if you need it.

Unlocking Safety – Exploring Biometric Gun Technology

    Biometrics routinely FAIL.

Start by building a "Safe braking system." The driver must enter a 6 digit PIN, swipe a RFID card, and insert a finger into a biometric reader - all before your brakes will respond.

Sounds like fun on an interstate, right?

I think New Jersey has a law on the books that if " smart guns" become available then only "smart guns" can be legally obtained.
Or something like that, I could be wrong

Which is why Engage was pummeled. Otherwise, Andy was only attempting to let the market decide.
I have no idea if Engage knew about that law. If Engage was simply approached it would be a 2A problem in NJ, I'd bet that would have been the end of it without all the death threats.
