The one on the MSP site is from 2008. Do we just cross it out like last year and put the correct date again?

It shouldn't be that hard to fix the date on the form and post it.

John at AGC sent out something on this last week:

    MARYLAND ANNUAL MACHINE GUN REGISTRATION

§4-403 of the Maryland Criminal Law Article, requires, that except in the calendar year it was purchased, every machine gun in this State shall be registered with the Secretary of the State Police annually during the month of May. Also, every machine gun shall be registered within 24 hours after its acquisition. Failure to comply with this law is a felony punishable by imprisonment in the State penitentiary for a term of not more than ten years. Maryland law further requires that each Machine Gun Registration Form, filed with the Secretary, shall be accompanied by a nonrefundable registration fee of $10.

The problem is, the Maryland State Police have not updated the annual registration form, and they are NOT sending the form in the mail as they have done for decades. The "pdf" version of the annual machine gun registration form on the Maryland State Police web site is 2 years out of date.

The Maryland State Police Licensing Division is telling those who call about not receiving the updated form that they should download the old 2009-2009 form on the MSP website, scratch out the 2008-2009 and write in 2010-2011. This is great is you have internet access, but presents a real problem for those who don't.

What happens to those who forget to register because they never received this year's form is unknown at this time.

Despite the fact that the Maryland State Police are the cause of this potential debacle, machine gun owners are still responsible for filing the registration forms as required by law.

If you own a machine gun, you have until the end of this month (Monday, May 31, 2010) to have your form in with the Maryland State Police.

The AGC has a file copy of the original form which we have updated to show the registration year. This form in "fillable pdf" format was created by the AGC from the MSP's original Word file and is available on the AGC's web site. The "AGC"pdf form has been "not disapproved" by the MSP. However, AGC assumes no liability for the use of this form.

Keep the form on file, if the MSP does not change it, and your address and inventory have not changed, you can simply change the applicable years at the top of the form and reprint the form.

Click here for the 2010-2011 Annual Machine Gun Registration Form

BE SURE TO SEND 2 COPIES AND ASK FOR 1 STAMPED COPY TO BE RETURNED TO YOU AS PROOF OF YOUR COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAW.

    Note:
As this email was being prepared, we were informed that after prodding by the AGC, the 2010-2011 form will be available on the MSP website "soon"...
We were also informed by the MSP that the paper registration forms were mailed "last week"...

I received a new one in the mail yesterday. It is marked 2010-2011 on it. Give it a day or two and if you don't get one in the mail call the MSP and they'll send you one. I would ask them about fixing the one online before doing it though.

I forget, is it $10 per form or $10 per gun?

    Bryan
The administrative fee is flat rate, $10 per form, regardless of line items/pages. Just make sure additional pagers are stapled together.
    Initial registration is the same.
