This thread made me think of this fantastic book that I picked up while out in Wyoming hiking last year. This is the guy that Robert Redford plays in the movie "Jeremiah Johnson."

Crow Killer: The Saga of Liver-Eating Johnson

AKA the most badass man I've ever read about. He's up there with John Colter, Captain Clarke, and Daniel Boone.

I've had opportunities to shoot crows while hunting other animals like doves and small game, but I never saw the point. Why do people shoot them outside of protecting crops?

Crows will eat eggs like turkey, ducks and goose eggs so water fowl hunters like when you hunt them.Farmers don't like them so they like when you hunt them. And for me there just alot of fun to hunt so CromMd likes when he hunts them.

    Are they good eatin'?

They are not but I guess I'd eat them if that's pretty much all there was.
Crows themselves will pretty much eat anything which could explain their taste when eaten but also there isn't much meat on them. The meat they do have on them is dark meat only.
They are safe to eat (probably one of the safest birds to eat) so you pretty much don't have to worry about getting viruses or bacteria from them. Just pour some Tabasco on them and they'll taste just great!

Very interesting. I always thought they must taste bad given the "eat crow" idiom meaning being forced to admit when you've been wrong. Maybe I'll take one this year just to try it. Good hunting.

well, I eat lobster, and that is basically an underwater cockroach, scavenging poop juice from the ocean floor...

I don't know why, but I don't think I could make myself eat a crow. Just seems really really gross.

Probably because of the things i have witnessed them eating.
