    Did you check other things? Like gas block aligned properly, no leaks in gas tube and ammo being used? Maybe your issue with short stroking.

    Not my rifle I posted for a friend. He only has short strokes with lighter bullets like 147. Once he moves to 168 or 180 no problems.

    A heavier buffer would be needed if the gun was over gassed; since it is short stroking, it sounds like the bolt isn't getting enough gas or the loads are underpowered.

    Does he have a true Armalite AR10 or is it a LR308? Either should cycle 147gr NATO with out an issue.

    op: ask your friend if he's shooting reloads w/ the 147 gr.
