So, how is one able to look at different handguns to find the best fit and feel? Always was told to go the a range and rent/shoot some of the different handguns to get a feel for it. So now, you have to have the HQL to do that, even to just hold? Guess people will mozy to VA, PA, DE, or WV to do so.

you don't need an HQL to go and rent a gun at the range. however, I've always thought range rentals are terrible. they are generally poorly cared for guns that are overused and not properly cared for.

I like to venture down to Arundel Mills Mall once in a while. Sure, I know that it's fairly likely that you'll get busted over the head with a baseball bat, or you'll find yourself with a chrome 45 in your ribs as you are packing your car. It happens all the time there. That's why when we go to Arundel Mills Mall, we go early. Hopefully the thugs are still in bed recovering from the previous night's muggings.

As already stated, dealers have record the name and address of purchasers of any "explosives" (which is what smokeless powder for reloading and black powder are defined as, in the Maryland fire code). It has been this way for quite some time. They also have to provide the same when asked, to law enforcement, not just the fire marshal. This has nothing to do with the phony baloney ammo log, it is a real law on the books.

It's why I only go in the daylight, only to BassPro, and in plain sight of one of the security "deer stands"

that's funny about the "deer stands". i don't think I've ever seen anyone go in or out of one of them. i always wondered if there are even any officers inside there.

Plan D? Not worth the hassle.
Only to Bass pro ++ good.

I don't think Bass Pro will be in the gun business long.. certainly not hand guns..

Like dicks Walmart and others. Hell Sports authority used to sell guns in NJ.
All gone now.. it was one of the places I asked about the law in nu before I gave up...

You don't need an HQL to handle or rent a gun at Continental Arms. My HQL is in process and I've rented guns there before to see if I actually wanted the model. Cheaper than buying something and finding out you don't like it. And, I put a deposit down on a new gun the other day w/o my HQL yet.

I can remember your name and address being recorded for buying any ammo that would fit a handgun in the late sixties or early seventies. This was at Clydes in Lansdowne.

You very may well have but that is total BS as a policy for them. At one time Baltimore County PD were asking dealers to ask customers to do this, on a voluntary basis. Dicks tried this on me until I spoke to a mgr.

Wow. I've known Clyde & Bill since 1982. They must have been strong armed, possibly with innuendo. Or a lawyer told them to do this. I just can't believe they wanted to do this. I am assuming that they did it because they somehow thought they had to.

It used to be the law in Maryland and was the law for many years but someone finally pointed out to the legislature the ammo log had never solved a single crime and the legislature in a weak moment did away with the law.

As previously stated; cross over into PA and forget about logs and amount of power one can purchase.

If you're bringing it back to Maryland the amount of powder you can legally possess without a license is still 5 lbs of smokeless and 5lbs of black powder.

OH!!! OK. I didn't know that. I moved to MD in 1982 and never filled out an ammo log.

Wish I would have seen this before, bought two pounds of AR Comp yesterday and was asked for ID. Young man pulled out log, I asked what it was for, I informed him that is was illegal, an older gentleman overheard me and agreed with me stating that it was the store's policy and advised me to contact customer service and voice/write my complaint. I will be doing this.
