I went up to Oaks gun show last weekend, which was great, and got a shotgun from Bay Silah Firearms out of Hagerstown. Super excited but come to find out they gave me one with rust in it and some other major issues. I've contacted them through several methods and no reply, wondering if anyone else has had this experience with them and looking for suggestions.

Seems the Shotguns are Turkish and Bay Silah is a Dealer and not the Importer

And Welcome to MDS now go introduce yourself.

Yennino welcome, I see this is also your first post. Welcome to MD shooters. Is this your first firearm purchase too? Tell us a bit about yourself.

Usually shotguns are pretty simple so what kind of “major” issue do you have. Also rust will happen on any gun if it’s not oiled properly and some light rust will likely just disappear with some oil. Now if it’s pitted and flaking that’s a different issue. Feel free to add pictures to this forum too.

Rules to remember always inspect any purchase you make, there’s no returns on guns. Make sure you understand how it works before you leave the shop, how to operate, load, unload, clean, and disassemble the firearm safely. If you still don’t understand please seek a qualified instructor. Operate the action and trigger, make sure you hear a click.

Couldn't decide to quote all of this , or just the first sentence of 3rd paragraph. . But it's past tonite's bed time , and I'm tired .

    1. The biggest point of purchasing ( things that go bang) in person . is to closely examine everything yourself .

    2. Never say never . Some independent LGS will go the extra mile for their customers .

But ( for new firearms ) , a dealer is not contractually vincorrect in advising a purchaser with issues to contact Mfg/ Importer/ distributor as case may be for warranty issues .

    3. Light surface rust is a minor problem , if that's what you're seeing . In a perfect world , a LGS would give a total inspection of each incoming new or used gun . But if they're blowing out stacks of them for low profit margins on each unit , doesn't always happen . ( Same thing about music instruments from local independent shop vs big box retailer )

    4. Other problems ? Tell us more . Even better , start thread(s) in either Shotgun or Gunsmithing subforum .

Hey, thanks for your reply and for the advice. Well, one thing about me is I'm very new to shotguns, lol. So, these may seem like stupid questions. I got this one new, inspected the display one, and was given one in a box. The rust was inside the bolt. I attached a photo, it's just a little as far as I can see, and I could probably remove it but I can't access inside the dust cover, because the rear recoil spring guide won't depress to allow the dust cover to open. There was no owners manual to figure it out. If you could provide any insight, I'd really appreciate it.

Spray some breakfree around the receiver button and keep working it. It probably has an excessive of dried preservative grease in that area.
Thanks I tried that, and jamming it harder. It kind of actually looks like the button is just cosmetic and is welded to the dust cover. When I push, the whole cover moved and the button doesn't shift on the cover at all.

Well it may look cool but this wouldn’t have been my first recommendation for a shotgun especially a first. what are the actual markings on the gun. Even my CZ shotgun is marked by its Turkish manufacturer too.

There may be a video of someone taking down the same model or similar. Is this what you bought? One thing I noticed their website images have pictures of two different guns for the same item.

I tried to check their Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/BaySilah) but they're all in Turkish and I don't see any listed for this model. These are the only markings on it.
I did see some takedown videos for similar models, but the button will not budge. It seems like its actually connected to the dust cover.

    Are you trying to:
    A) press that little round button down or
    B) trying to press the whole thing forward into the dust cover? (towards the barrel)

'B' is how a typical AK would open. The BCG should be fully forward when you do this. Use penetrating oil on everything. Try smacking the catch w/ something? They can get stuck. I've never seen the little button thing on top of one before. It appears that may be captured w/ a ball detent or something. Maybe have to push it down before pressing the catch forward to get it to go fully through the cover?

Thanks for the advice. I've tried pressing the button, it does depress but won't release the dust cover. Then I tried pushing the whole thing forward and if I push really hard, the whole dust cover will budge a little with it but doesn't depress into the dust cover. It looks like it has a bit welded on there (picture). I tried pushing the button and pushing the whole thing in but no luck.

Any updates on the disassembly of this firearm?
Hey guys, thanks for all the help. I tried some of the basic fixes but rather than file off the welded bit, I contacted the owner and am in the process of returning it. I had to try to contact them in like 5 different ways before reaching anyone and I'm still waiting for return information but it looks like they'll fully refund it.

Have you thought about a replacement, what made you buy that shotgun, what’s your intended purpose?

At this point, I don't really trust the company. I'm going to get a similar model from another. I just like the AK style and wanted to try the shotgun version.
