Anybody know what the heck these things are??? We noticed one or two here and there, now the weather has changed, they're feaking everywhere in the basement! Help!!!
Boxelder for sure. I had some bushes out front of the house and they were always there....until I removed the bushes. I think they are a nuisance bug though, not harmful to the best of my knowledge.
They are boxelder beetles and harmless they are just a pain in the ass . They live , eat and breed in piles of dead leaves , grass , untreated mulch and the like . If you had any of this near the house in the fall they likely moved in when it got too cold .
We had them outside a few years back. After a little research I found that they have exoskeletons and a mixture of dish soap and water will kill them by suffocating them. At that point I handed my 2 kids pump sprayers full of soapy water and let them deal with the problem. Haven't had them since!
