I want to make a dimpling tool to drill out 303 Berdan 303 cases that will allow the insertion of 209 primers into once fired case heads.
The tool will accurately fit the inside of the resized neck, make a dimple for centering/creating a new pocket (center punch)and then be followed up with a second tool that is bored clear through that has been sized to accommodate the circumference of a 209 primer via reaming.
For a press fit is what I'm after.
More than likely there will also be some hoops to jump through that allows the new primer exterior pocket to be countersunk so the new primer is below flush at the case head exterior so I may have to add a second step for accommodating the flange on a 209 primer.
I want to load the cases with BP and cast bullets for single shot rifle shooting. Maybe some Red Dot if things work out.
1. To what extent does anyone think this is an entirely stupid venture.
2. What safety measures may I be overlooking creating a work around
3. Would the additional diameter of a 209 primer be more or less stronger than a common LR primer cups ability to control pressure.
4. I have not determined the length fo a 209 primer versus the thickness of a 303 case head at this time. And, would a small descrepency create an unknown problem from using BP or equivalnet vs. a powder such as Red Dot. (think flame travel surface/case volume).
