whats the best for the mosin nagant? haven't seen to many options

the surplus ammo is the cheapest and what the gun was made to shoot. just remember its corrosive ammo. a shot of windex down the barrel after shooting will hold it over till u clean it at home:thumbsup:

Whatever you got is the best for the 91/30. Just knock some of the dirt off of whatever you've dug up from some farmers field in the Ukraine and shoot it. It'll do just fine.

For my MN's? My handloads are best. They're non-corrosive, I know where they came from and how they'll perform.

For milsurp ammo, as has been said, about any 7.62x54r will go bang in your MN's. Clean out the corrosive crap well after shooting it and it's just fine.

They tend to like heavy grain bullets (182 and up). The light ball (148 grain) is better suited for PSL's and other combloc machineguns.

I have always heard it's the other way around...

Not in the rifles I own and have test fired/repaired. I will also add to my original statement that this applies to Full Lenght Mosins with sharp rifling/mirror bores. The Shorter Variants tend to like Light Ball.

    YMMV

My M44 loves whatever I toss down her throat, from corrosive 148gr Blok ammo to 203gr soft point non corrosive. I have Blok, Brown Bear, Silver Bear, and Winchester.
