    Today's update -

Picked up a Min Kota Endura 40 trolling motor and marine battery combo for $200 . 2020 , but supposedly never used .

Added - On the respective titles the boat is '83 , the trailer '89 . Most recent registration sticker on boat is '17 .

I used to have a Minn Kota Endura Max 40 on my Kayak until last year. I bought a standard Endura 55 and swapped out the bottom end (the top end works with the 55). You will only get about 5 MPH so don't think of going on fast trips. I got the 55 because I kayak fish in the main bay and I needed more Ummph to get me back to the ramp when the wind and current were against me.

Did figure it would be leisurely .

Any rough ideas on distance / running time ?

Here are the formulas from Minn Kota. The Endura Max is different as it uses a Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) to extend the life of the battery. It works great as long as you remember that, once to turn to full power, you take the PWM out of the circuit. MK advertises that the Endura Max models get 5X more battery time than the motors without the PWM.

I have always used a small 55 amp deep cycle battery and never ran out of juice. However, I wanted more time at higher speeds so I bought a 60 AMP LIfePo battery last year. It allows me to run down to just about 0 voltage with no penalty. When you use a standard lead acid battery, you shouldn't go below 50% discharge or your battery will only last a year or two.

The other advantage, especially for 70 year old's with arthritis, is that the LifePo battery only ways about 16 pounds. My 55 Amp lead acid weighted about 48 pounds. ;)
