Santa brought me a new Mossberg SPX (pictures to come later). What ammo is recommended for breaking it in? Since I plan on taking it to Freestate in the next day or so please advise on slugs as well as shot.

    Thanks as always

    Read the manual?

Benelli's (inertia, not gas) suggest shooting a particular load first to 'break it in.' I didn't do that, I went straight to low power target loads, and was fine. It's gas operated, I doubt there is anything you need to do.

25 slugs followed by 25 buck and 25 bird. Stay away from low recoil stuff as it may cause feeding issues. Due to being underpowered.

Just remember, only slugs at Freestate. I ran 100 2 3/4 sluggers through my brothers when he first got it and never had a problem. That was followed immediately by 100+ birdshot for clays at the same session.

One or two boxes of 1-1/8oz shells should be plenty to break it in, if necessary. Don't forget the pics.
