I just got a Carcano 38 in 7.35. It seemed to function properly when I dry fired it, but when I removed the bolt and attempted to disassemble it it would not come apart. The cap on the cocking handle would not turn with the little plunger depressed.
First I thought maybe it was fouling internally and I soaked it in mineral spirits and bore cleaner. But now I realize that the cocking piece is not properly moving into place when I uncock the bolt and that the firing pin appears not to have been properly screwed into the cap on the cocking piece. I think the bolt was not properly reassembled.
It seems to work ok in the gun, but it's not right. The photos below show the bolt in both the cocked and uncocked positions, also a picture of the firing pin in the bolt head in the uncocked position, and a photo of the cocking piece where the top of the firing pin should be slightly protruding but is in fact not in the channel. Anybody have any ideas as to how to fix this?
