I am really thinking about applying now.
I fit into the category
1: I am a fire fighter
2: I work for federal government.
Suggestion: Wait a bit and see what this memo says.

MSP emailed the SOP memo out today to people on their mailing list.
I was reading about the process it said one needs a firearms training class. What class is it talking about?
Whete in southern MD can one get this training?
Is the memo different than the SOP itself?
When under attack YOU are always the first responder!
This looks good for military and those with clearances/gov civvies
Typically no restrictions or off duty only restrictions for assumed risk positions. These would be folks like prosecutors, judges, corrections officers, etc.I see "Assumed Risk Position" defined in the document, but I don't see it mentioned anywhere else...specifically if it would have restrictions...?
What this user said: Old News...Old news. Here is the SOP that became effective 9/1 previously posted in other threads here
"ASSUMED RISK POSITION: a position of government/public safety/criminal justice employment where, by
virtue of the positions duties and responsibilities, the employee voluntarily and knowingly assumes the
risks that those duties will either place their lives in imminent danger and/or subject them to be targeted
by individuals or entities seeking to do them harm as a result of performing those duties or
responsibilities."

This should get interesting
Don't think this is good, seems like this memo really clears up any wiggle room on permits but that could be bad for the average guy trying to get one. Also, and know some will not like this, I don't think firefighters or EMTs should be a part of a special class who gets permits. These professionals show up to help people primarily, not to apprehend or investigate. Let's face it, people don't have a grudge against them like the police. I efinatkey think its a bad idea for EMT/fire to carry on duty.
I'll take it further, I and other teachers I know have been threatened by students and parents more than someone would think. Never enough to have a police report, but enough to raise concern. There have been "school shootings" all over the news, school board meetings have been interrupted by gunmen, so doesn't that mean teaching should be a profession qualifying for a permit?
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to stop anyone who is qualified to get a permit from getting one, if fire and EMT can do it great.....but I'd rather see us all have the same chance and the same process and the same rights.
Ok, I'm done. Sorry for the mini rant.
