I've been looking at either a Marlin 3030 or a Henry and went to see one at Xring tonight.

Frankly, I think they got a bad one. Most of the workmanship was very nice, but the forestock had about a .010 to .020" waggle in it at the rear band, which in ym opinion would only get worse with time and shots. They tried to tighten it up, but didnt remove it completely. Plus, a small blem about 3/8" long up at the front of the forestock and was too big to let go. Something didnt look right up there either. Almost like Henry had tried to patch it up. Very strange.
They even let me use a magnifying glass to look at the blem, and were very accomodating.
The rest of the rifle was flawless, but I told them sorry, but I'll have to pass.

That's really odd considering how usually stringent Henry is on QC. I sent mine in for a warranty repair damaged magazine tube. They replaced the fore and butt stock without me asking and polished the brass.

i thought so too. did you buy it flawless and something happened? or was there something wrong from day one?

I'm kind of leaning toward a Marlin 336SS as well.

I had bought it brand new no flaws at all,the 44 mag golden boy, probably fired easily about 3K shots through it. at the end of the tube magazine the lock cut out piece snapped off probably from all the vibrations from being fired. either way that didn't stop me from buying the 22, 357/38 .30-30 and the .45 rifles from them.
    really incredible rifles.

I have no complaints about my Big Boys. I've had them for a while now and I haven't found anything wrong with them. I do intend to buy the 1860 but not the Henry. I want to keep everything in .45Colt. Only Uberti sells one in that caliber.
