We decided to have another CMP clinic before the end of the year, now that we have 4 newly certified CMP instructors fresh back from Camp Perry.
While there we were informed that their current supply of M1 Garands may only last a year or 2 unless additional unaccounted rifles turn up in the various armories or are returned by allies, both of which are doubtful.
Our clinic fulfills the training requirement to purchase rifles, ammunition, parts and accessories from the CMP. Currently, only M1 Garands and various air rifles are available, along with new and surplus ammunition.
M1 Carbines, 1903 Springfields, Enfields, and other rifles are occasionally available either for sale or auction.
We spend most of the morning in the classroom detailing the parts, operation, disassembly and maintenance of the M1, and also spend time practicing loading with dummy rounds. If time permits, we will also give overviews of the M1 Carbine and AR15.
Outdoor live-firing takes place on our 100 yd. range with covered firing points, and is run like a match with scoring (even though the scores don't really matter).
Cost is $85 for BCGF members, and $95 for non-members and includes rifle use, ammunition, clips, instructional material, lunch, certificate, and all the instruction that you need. Any proceeds go to help support our junior and Boy Scout instruction and competition programs.
