I have an all original Colt 6520. It has an integrated carry handle. If I replaced it with the below flat top Colt upper and transferred all the upper parts over to that upper, would that affect any collector value it might have? I would keep the original upper of course.

I probably won't do this but was thinking of putting an optic on it.

If it were me, I'd keep the original upper intact and build an all new, all Colt upper to suit your needs.

You can also just throw an optic on the carry handle.

    ^^ This ^^

Plus, if you are concerned with "collector value", you shouldn't be shooting it at all.

This was more curiosity than anything. I do not shoot it and never have. I have 2 of these bought new with consecutive serial numbers but was musing the other day about putting a scope on it. I was comparing the weight of this vs a newer AR with handguards, scopes, etc. This seems like 1/2 as much.

Just buy a new flat top AR as a shooter.

I think bolt on carry handles are an abomination. Buying a new flat top complete upper makes more sense than swapping, plus you can always switch back for when you want to shoot irons.
