I recently bought a colt upper i believe to be a Colt M16A2 Carbine model 727 and was wondering what the value of this upper is? It came on a PWA Commando 556 lower I was also wondering if the PWA lower is the original lower and what it is worth as well.

AFAIK Colt themselves made all of the lowers for the 727 platform.

I'm guessing the upper itself might bring 600-800 dollars from a Colt collector who knows what it is.

IF you can show the PWA lower was made pre-federal AWB (many were), then it would be worth between $400-700 to someone in Massachusetts where they copied and still have the federal ban complete with dates. Contrary to internet folklore, I do not believe all PWA lowers are pre-ban though.

35222 is the cut off for pre ban PWA lowers. I had heard that number before, it took me a while to find it again.

If it's earlier than that the lower is worth $700-800. After that, $400-500 if you find the right buyer.

Gunbroker past auctions can probably give you better numbers. That's an educated guess.

I am not an expert on these but I have never heard of a premium on these based on a high serial #. Maybe someone who has to have a PWA might pay a little more for it, just to avoid the pre ban prices.
